5 x the best things in Harlingen

We already wrote it earlierHarlingen is really not just a place to take the ferry to Vlieland of Terschelling to grab. Are you crazy, there is a lot of fun to do (and see and eat and stay and, and, and... well, we made our point). In the summer you get a cone of fries and can watch all the chaos from the quay - all those people who go to the islands and still have to wait hours for their holiday to start (and you are already enjoying it) or you go in winter and keep your fingers crossed with all your fellow Frisians for a lot of frost for the Eleven Cities Tour. Whenever you decide to go, leave the ferry for what it is and spend a few days in Harlingen.

The Roof House

The Roof House

There are those places where you can never stay long enough, because man, man, man, you're so comfortable there. The Roof House There is one of these in the historic city center of Harlingen, Team Bart thinks one weekend is not enough. Not nearly enough. The name Dakhuis gives it away a bit, but you are sitting above the rest of the city (well, okay, only the church towers are higher, but we don't mind that) in the old engine room of a former grain warehouse. From your own two (two!) terraces you can sunbathe all day long and see those Wadden Islands (we told you you didn't have to take that boat).

Would you like to tower above Harlingen, a cup of Nespresso in your hand (yep, they have them too) and explore this fishing town? Great, we thought. Check this out More.

AirBnB

AirBnB

In Harlingen, the port to Vlieland and Terschelling, AirBnB-ed is also being used and they are doing a damn good job there. We spotted at least those guest gems. There is a picture of a black and white apartment in the historic, beautiful garden at the Noorderhaven with the unpronounceable name NRDRHVN91 (yes) because of course Noorderhaven stands for 91 (ah yes). Or stay on top of the roof of a monumental building warehouse 't Kalf, in the former engine room. There are two floors and two roof terraces, everything more than tastefully decorated with design and art in abundance. And you know that crazy one? bright red lighthouse of Harlingen? Well, you can also spend the night there! It doesn't get more special.

SHORT STAY THE BANK

SHORT STAY THE BANK

'There's no place like home, but we're getting very close', is the motto on the website of Short Stay De Bank in Harlingen can be read. 'First see, then believe' is not entirely coincidental our motto (okay, one of many, but this one really rolls out of our mouths often). We wouldn't be Team Bart if we didn't put it to the test. Long story short: We did. We liked. Instead of a small hotel room, you get a complete apartment with all the trimmings. 'Everything' consists of a complete kitchen, washing machine and dryer and of course a bathroom and bedroom. Rooms with names such as Danish Krone, Japanese Yen and Euro are discussed. If you are in Harlingen, wait a while before taking the boat to Terschelling or Vlieland: the shops Koks and Keukenmeiden and Binnen en Buiten – from the same owners – are pretty much the Merci of the Low Countries (and Merci is one of the most beautiful shops out there, a multi-brand store in Paris) and the café Nooitgedagt is also very nice in the port town.
