Stunning Streetfood at JaffaJaffa in Zwolle
Man man, our patience was tested... Already in July 2020, we (that is to say: the residents of Overijssel) were treated en masse with the arrival of the soon to be and stunning street food bar JaffaJaffa. And the wait was rewarded: since the summer you can find the shop inside (or actually in) the Zwolle city wall. Because, after a long wait street food bar JaffaJaffa in Zwolle finally ready!
The reason for the long wait? First it took quite a few months of DIY (and how!)... Old elements from the monumental building remained, Asian, African, South American and even influences from the Middle East entered the Zwolle mix (both in the looks and in the menu). and of course the Corona also threw lockdown still some soot in it fusion food.
But patience is a virtue and after months (what do I say, a year!) of peering and peeking through the windows (and walls, ha!) it was suddenly September 20, 2021. Owners Nancy (from Bistro Bonne Femme) and Jelle (from including burger restaurant Ingeburgerd) were allowed to swing open the old doors of the former Liberije building. Doors to a world of sparkling drinks and... funky fusions from cuisines from all over the world.
Sounds great and incredible stunning, but what do you get on your plate? We should actually say plates, because we enjoy it at JaffaJaffa share. That's great of course, because this way we can test the entire card. From chicken marinated in coffee and cocoa with guacamole, chimichurri and feta, to ceviche of sea bream fillet with red onion and pineapple. Asian steamed buns, spicy ribs, pitas with dip and vegan kebab. A Friday afternoon drink with bintang-etje This easily turns into a long evening of eating with friends at a high table, seamlessly followed by swinging to cheerful music salsa vibes with Mai Tais.
And then let's talk about the well-chaotic interior. So well done, you immediately feel like you're in Bali or Tel Aviv, and we even taste a hint of Bombay. So well executed that, peering through the window over the Zwolle canal, it immediately makes you forget that gray gray rain.
JaffaJaffa has 3 floors. In the basement the: booming basement JaffaBar. Hang out at the bar with a good glass of wine or enjoy a private table with your own tap (really!). The ground floor is the JaffaMarket where you can share all the bites from the menu with your friends while enjoying a delicious cocktail. Upstairs you will find JaffaKitchen. As your word says, here is true the magic happens and where you can experience the streetfood can taste.
