A unique stay near Lake Kawaguchi and Mt Fuji in Japan? You have to have this house on Airbnb!

Finding a nice place to stay at Lake Kawaguchi in Japan - which is highly recommended! - is not that easy... Most hotels are outdated, rooms too small and - let's be honest - various things are often very pricey. That is where home rental platform Airbnb comes to the rescue! Staying at locals? じゃ! (that is YES! in Japanese). Here too, we found another gem of a house on Airbnb that will give your trip through Japan a nice upgrade – promised! You know us:  gatekeeping we don't do that (because: tried & tested).

Of all the Fuji Five Lakes, Kawaguchi (also known internationally as Kawaguchiko) is the most accessible and, for good reason, the most popular. On the east side of the lake, you will find a cozy little onsen town with all amenities, while the north and west have remained quiet and undeveloped. And precisely there, on the north shore, you have the most beautiful views of Mount Fuji on clear mornings (before 9 am is your best chance), truly magical during the cherry blossom in April or the autumn colors in early November. Boat trips, a rope way Into the mountains, hot springs; Kawaguchi has it all. We went off the beaten track for a unique 'container home' that would fit in any design magazine.

It is just a little too wild for a hotel, just a little too free for a ryokan, more comfortable than camping, and more unique than glamping.

Four containers, connected by a terrace and covered by one large roof: Grove Inn is not just any accommodation. It is just a little too wild for a hotel, just a little too free for a ryokan, more comfortable than camping, and more unique than glamping. Each room has its own outside entrance, so you constantly feel like you are outdoors without ever missing out on comfort.

The unique accommodation features a private wood-burning sauna, where you stoke the fire yourself. Additionally, there is a covered outdoor area where you can barbecue in any weather, and complete privacy without being overlooked by neighbors or passersby. Yet, you are not completely cut off from the world here: supermarkets and restaurants are a three-minute drive away, and Kawaguchiko IC is just a seven-minute drive, making it perfect for those seeking peace and quiet without giving up all conveniences.
