Anyone who has studied Dutch fashion just a little bit will know that the only major fashion school is in Arnhem (ArtEZ Academy of Visual Arts). And it is not rocket science to realize that a fashion education attracts creative souls. Creative souls who in turn bring creative (and just really fun) catering. Going out with several generations – grandma, mom, kids and grandkids (the men are also welcome)? No problem! Bee Walt Coffee they have something for everyone. A very nice place for lunch. Are you a little early? They also have an extensive breakfast range. Phew, and a damn good cup of coffee. We won't say no to that. The hospitality and service are also to die for.
The menu varies from a rusk with fresh strawberries, the wrong croissant with caramel spread and bacon, thick toasted sandwiches, a classic carpaccio sandwich, and we could go on and on. Man, man, does it make us drool. Just drop by, we say. Let's go!

Good idea, especially when the weather is nice: to move towards Hartjesberg. What's in a name. There, in Park Sonsbeek, on top of the Hartjesberg, there is a villa that is perfect for an extensive lunch: inside in bad weather, in front of the door on the grass of the mountain when the sun shines. Here you can enjoy a great view of the park and the city of Arnhem. In the middle of one of the largest parks in the Netherlands, the villa is a wonderful, always good base with, above all, a very good lunch.

If you are in a city other than your own, as may be the case in Arnhem, then it is nice to be at a “local” coffee bar. Bomboca is such a place. Good coffee, excellent pastel de nata and above all a nice relaxed atmosphere. If there is sun, you can sit outside on the terrace. Coffee, yes, but they also have breakfast and lunch on the menu – otherwise they obviously wouldn't have ended up on this list. Sticking around is a more than excellent idea.

If you want more of that, but also for breakfast, then Caspar is your man. That's not really a man, not even a person, but a lovely city café on the ground floor of Hotel Modez (also a very good tip). The café in the Modekwartier (Klarendal) is one that the neighborhood likes to visit, in addition to the hotel guests, and you can feel that in everything. One of the nicest places in Arnhem, promise, and it has been that way for a long time for good reason (good sign).
Also in the Arnhem Klarendal district - which used to be a problem area to say the least, now a hip part of the city and the location of the Fashion Quarter - is the Sugar Hill cafe and restaurant. At the end of the Klarendalseweg, on the corner, just when you think there will be nothing left after the trendy shops, a Turkish greengrocer, the Albert Heijn and a Surinamese eatery. Sugar Hill does not take reservations and the place is always full - both the tables and the bar - which is nice. There is a terrace on the sidewalk with army green furniture. Inside, the floor is made of planks, the tables are made of bare wood and the furniture comes from the junk shop. The back wall is taken up by a bar and a kitchen. It's a café, without any bullshit, and that was exactly the intention. The menu is never the same, except for the homemade hamburger, which is fixed on the menu. The name? It comes from the Sugar Hill Gang, an American hip-hop trio from the early eighties. And since the eatery is on a hill, that was it. It sounds nice too.
The vegan eaters are included Studio Rabbit Food completely baked in Arnhem. We love the name alone (really nice), but we love the food most of all. Better than real rabbit food (yo). Many people are surprised that everything is vegan and that is a good sign. For lunch you can enjoy fresh pasta, sandwiches and salads made from as many fresh and local ingredients as possible.
Former favorite Puck has made room for a new favorite: Simmer. The coffee changes continuously at Prut Arnhem. So enough coffee grounds. The menu includes various Middle Eastern delicacies, natural wines and wild beers. One of the few places in Arnhem that has natural wine on the menu. The one from the natural wine store, by the way Vivian Sauvage, just down the street. We are very happy with it.
Slightly less of a real lunch spot, but for a coffeebreak with a pastry shop it's the right place. Bar Hotel Karel can be found in the Spijkerkwartier, where owner Karlijn bakes the tastiest bread in all of Arnhem for you early in the morning (or so we think). You can come here for your daily bread, but also for a cup of coffee with a cinnamon bun. Inside you can sit in the middle of the bakery and enjoy your coffee, but you can also sit outside on one of the stools in front of the building. Bar Hotel Karel is not only a bakery, you probably guessed it, but you can also sleep there. This place is and remains a favorite in Arnhem.
Lots Brunch Club is one that makes us all happy; I'm sure you too. A light interior, marble tables, wooden chairs, but especially the menu. Which consists of a breakfast-all-day mentality, which we love. Pancakes, waffles and French toasts for the sweet tooths among us. Eggs, avocado toast, various tuna sandwiches and carpaccio for savory lovers. If you don't know what you want for lunch, Lots is always the right place for you.
Setting up an innovative tent in Arnhem. With a luxurious appearance, but not high-threshold. That was the owner's wish Hannah Food Bar. A place where you can eat, work or meet up with friends. A place with a relaxed, bohemian vibe. A former snack bar was thoroughly renovated (but the cozy stained glass windows remained) and was transformed into a place with a high living room feeling. The outside was given an anthracite lick of paint and voilà: Hannah Foodbar was born.

At Ann, Arnhem really is such a cozy, friendly, warm place where everything revolves around good food and a nice get-together. One of those living room addresses where the cookies are warm and the cakes are sweet, where you get tea from a pot and where the owner is looking forward to the day - such a place. We go there for the scones, sandwiches and croissants; everything super fresh and super tasty.

In other words; first aid when hungry! Yes, you have to join for that First Eat are. Everything is freshly prepared, including juices, sourdough sandwiches, salads and homemade delicacies. You can eat this in the cozy and green café, where you can relax in one of the sofas or on the terrace in the sun (when it shines of course). They cook at First Eet 'plant forward', which means that they cook as much vegetable as possible. Everything is vegetarian and vegan as much as possible. Also nice: you can also shop there. Even more fun: there are rotating exhibitions of former Artez students.
You will find it hidden in the center of Arnhem Café Verheyden. In the old warehouse and with the beautiful city garden, you can escape all the busy shopping traffic of the city. At Verheyden, they believe it is important to eat as fresh as possible and you can taste that. You can expect seasonal dishes on a menu that varies monthly. The café is small and cozy, the green walls and dark brown wooden tables give the café a tasteful feel cool. Everything has been thought through, and it shows. Verheyden was the first in Arnhem to have oysters on the menu and, in our opinion, remains the best in the city. If you get the chance, don't let it pass you by. Oysters for lunch, sounds like music to your ears, right?
The Arnhem book café is without a doubt Libertas. Located in the middle of Arnhem's popular Fashion Quarter. There is hardly a wall without a bookcase and many people are completely lost in their book. You can browse around in all the second-hand books, read them there or take them with you for next to nothing. If you choose the former, enjoy a nice cup of coffee or one of the many special beers they have. And in addition to the many books, there are weekly (literary) activities to follow, such as poetry evenings, music, workshops, games and that kind of fun.
The oh-so-nice Arnhem Gemaal can be found on the other side of the river. The building was built in 1934 and the history can still be felt. The old pumps and the control panel are still visible. The atmosphere in the café is just like a living room, where you can go for a cup of coffee, lunch or a drink during a break from your walk or bike ride. It is the only spot on the dike, so it is certainly quiet. Wonderful to gaze over the floodplain, with lots of greenery and tasty treats around you. In addition to the menu, there is also a vintage corner with all kinds of nice things, something we certainly have a soft spot for (fill up those panniers). For a special lunch spot, you should definitely visit Het Arnhems Gemaal.
