Millinger Tea Garden
Already mentioned in a list before (the finest terraces from all over the Netherlands, definitely worth it) but this pearl deserves its own spotlight. Because wow: when you walk up the steps of the Millinger Tea Garden, you suddenly feel like you're in Morocco. And that in Millingen aan de Rijn (Berg & Dal). Where do you say? In the Millingerwaard nature reserve, in Gelderland. So in the middle of the nature reserve that you can only reach the tea garden on foot or by bicycle. First walk or cycle 2,5 km through the nature reserve before you can have tea. But it's worth it!
In the Millinger tea garden you can get lost on the winding paths, and you will find a hidden corner behind every piece of greenery. There is a Moorish tea house with a veranda, but also a Moroccan-Oriental tea house with blue mosaics around a romantic fountain. Beautiful cushions in beautiful prints, Moroccan rugs that you would like to take home with you under your arm and cheerful blue chairs (oh boy, there you go). mindfull ness, you end up standing with your phone in your hand all afternoon because oh so insta-proof here). There is also a sculpture exhibition outside in the garden and a painting exhibition inside. And dogs (on a leash) welcome!
You pay €6 entrance fee for the garden, but that also includes refreshments. You can also opt for a complete breakfast (Greek yogurt, croissant, fresh fruit, sandwich, fresh apple-pear juice) or lunch in the Millinger Tea Garden, everything with a Mediterranean touch. Don't want a complete food package? Furthermore, a small menu with Mediterranean influences, sandwiches with Muhammara and feta or hummus and babaganoush. In the summer, the Millinger Tea Garden presents a Table d'Hôte every Friday evening. All tables are then comfortably pushed together and an extensive daily menu is served, just as if you were at a Mediterranean village festival.
This location screams (or um, whispers?) for a quiet yoga class, and that is also possible. Relax and stretch a bit in the fairytale garden, we can imagine it. Not only yoga, you can also follow various walking activities from the Millinger Tea Garden, including a barefoot walk. A bit vague and too mindfully for your taste? Then you can just sit back and relax in your blue chair with your cup of tea. No one looks after you. (Well, us, if you tag us on your beautiful pictures on Instagram.) Enjoy!
In the (widely viewed) summer season (March 21 – November 1). Millinger Tea Garden open every day, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm.
