A sourdough pizzeria in the center of Nijmegen: Pizza café Desem. Here you can eat pizza at a culinary level while enjoying a glass of natural wine or kombucha. At Desem they bake sourdough pizzas from local grains and produce their own tomato beer. The toppings are also fresh and sourced from local producers: vegetables from the local vegetable garden, oyster mushrooms from Nijmegen and organic meat from the green butcher. This way they know that their pizzas are served responsibly!

In the heart of the city center you will find Casa Valencia. A tiny spot inspired by the cuisine of – you guessed it – Valencia. Think: warm tones, colorful tiles, and a menu packed with Spanish classics to share. Crispy Croquetas, Spanish Manchego, and of course a pitcher of sangria you can't stop yourself from.
Inside, it is lovely to spend time at one of the small tables or at the bar, but we prefer to stick around on the cozy terrace. Until the sun goes down and you almost forget that you are in Nijmegen.
When you say Asian food, you say Bangkok. Located in the lower town, you will find a hotspot where streetfood and cocktails come together in an atmospheric place that rivals the lively food markets of Southeast Asia. But without the jet lag.
The place, located on the Waal, has a fantastic view, making it perfect for a romantic date. Or for a quick weekday bite. Which then turns into a full-evening dinner with far too many small plates (because everything on the menu sounds ridiculously delicious). And the best part? Just close your eyes for a moment and you can almost hear the sea (read: the Waal) rustling.
This is Mira. Owners Birsen and Erdogan brought their dream from Turkey to the Netherlands, and it shows in everything. The interior is warm and a tad eclectic, but it is above all the Turkish hospitality that immediately makes you feel like you are on vacation.
At Mira, you don't come for a quick bite, but to dine and have drinks at length with a table full of guests. meze to share. No stress about choosing, just that lovely, relaxed atmosphere where time seems to stand still for a moment.
