Disappear into the nature of Texel at Op Oost
Fancy a weekend getaway? That screams Texel (where there is always a lot to see and do). And presto, then it could suddenly happen that the ferry takes you within 20 minutes brings us to this special place with both feet. The place where it is pure and salty, the glory that the island life is called. With its beautiful vast nature stretching far into the distance and dunes, so beautiful that you forget for a moment that you are standing on Dutch soil. We love it. Just as much as we love Texel's silent pearls, those remote places to retreat to. On East is the name of our latest discovery in exactly that category. At this authentic Texel farmhouse with, let's face it: historic (sea)weed barn, you will immediately feel like you are in an oasis of peace. Plus culinary dining. And sleep like a baby. No no, we won't forget him: and just enjoy nature.
And also breakfast, which is served in the room in a picnic basket (we love it!), is packed with local products. Farmer's yoghurt with granola, so-called 'wellness' shots (the ginger and carrot shots), locally sourced fresh toppings, seasonal fruit and farm bread. That's nice to wake up to.
What do we like most about Op Oost? You don't have to do anything and you don't miss anything. For a high-level dinner? Stay 'home' and sit down at the table at Op Oost, the restaurant. Cooking studio on East -as it is called-, brings together raw craftsmanship and fine dining with a Nordic approach to growing, hunting and preserving. And all that on an open fire. And of course ingredients from our own garden or straight from the Texel Wadden Sea. Pure. We are quite impressed. Experience it 'Served by Nature' principle and enjoy with all your senses. The gastro part of the name also leaves nothing to be desired; All kinds of products from Dutch soil (literally) are discussed. The flavors are phenomenal and what does it look like? To get through a ring. Apart from this fantastic dinner in terms of food, the accompanying drinks are also critically examined and paid attention to. There is, among other things, homemade kombucha, various other homemade drinks (elderflower lemonade just to mention a thing) and the matching wines are carefully selected by Shari, who is a master in finding the tastiest wines (these are always European and Shari is currently working very hard on tracking down Dutch wines for the Op Oost wine list). We like. Tip: don't forget to order the cheese board if there is still room, because you don't want to miss it (just a tip from us to you).
During a stay at Op Oost you won't just get around to relaxing, no. Live there like a local. At Op Oost they take you with open arms to the undiscovered places that Texel has to offer. This way you can work with the chef of Cooking studio on East gather oysters, stroll around the lovely garden and walk along Texel picking routes to discover (and taste) delicious salty vegetables and herbs. Or take the plunge and ask for tips on where the locals like to eat, drink and enjoy (Texels style).
If you have any doubts: Op Oost is also a great place to stay with children. The little ones are having a great time here. Let them discover nature: jump over ditches, discover the mudflats, fish and catch crabs or run around through the dunes. The Garden Suite Superior & Suite is a great place to stay with the mini. Enjoy together Op Oost!
