A pub is always a good idea. A pub where you after that last one pint You could also just stay the night? Even better. In London, you’ll find a surprising number of pubs where you can also spend the night. Not large hotels with a bar, but real pubs where you pull up a chair on the weekend for a Sunday roast, a good glass of wine, and the cozy buzz that goes with it, only to have to walk up the stairs to bed. And there’s something about that.
Chelsea, London, formerly the center of artists, bohemians, and everything related to fashion and novelty. That stigma has changed somewhat, but it remains the center of so much beauty and deliciousness. King's Road is often seen as the center, but turn the corner and you'll find yourself on one of London's most beautiful streets: Pimlico Road. Right in the middle of it stands The Orange, a casual restaurant and bar with a few hotel rooms on top (highly recommended!). Tasty pizzas, soups, and savory food, good ales and cocktails, and unvarnished English humor all around you. Cozy, but really, really cozy.
The pub-with-room trick wasn't just brought to life at The Orange. In fact, the same group has two more fine spots in London: The Grazing Goat in Marylebone en The Princess Royal in Notting HillThe Grazing Goat was given a generous dose of Cotswolds atmosphere, or in other words: rural charm, while The Princess Royal plays the royal card: every room is named after a princess. The concept remains the same: a good pub, beautiful rooms above the establishment, and above all, a great deal of conviviality.
The Fox & Anchor is a quirky Old building, steeped in English charm. Downstairs, of course, is the pub where you pull up a chair for a pint and solid classics, above six rooms bathed in a mix of patterns, English fabrics, and vintage details. Not a sleek boutique hotel. And thanks to the air conditioning in the old building, you sleep surprisingly comfortably here, even in the summer.
The Bull & Last is a London pub just as you hope they exist. Downstairs, a cosy pub; upstairs, a compact guesthouse with seven rooms. With Hampstead Heath around the corner, Woodsome toiletries in the bathroom, and an interior inspired by the nearby Kenwood House – a beautiful 18th-century country house surrounded by greenery – this place exudes exactly the atmosphere we love so much. Think: English country chic. And that is exactly what we adore.
