Good cocktails? You can find them at Tikibar Dorstig in Venlo
The weekend is calling. And that means time for a drink. Better yet: a cocktail. Honestly? Also great during the week, if you ask us. Preferably in a place that ticks all the boxes and guess what, this is the case with Dorstig in Venlo (North Limburg). Located on the most cozy square in Venlo - the Kwartelenmarkt - and surrounded by monumental buildings and terraces, in an oasis of pink and jungle, lies cocktail bar Dorstig. Once you've settled there, you won't want to leave. Satisfying your thirst here with the best cocktails is a great idea.
Only opened a few years ago, but it already has an I-got-you-there track record. Last year they won the national final of the Johnnie Walker Black Label cocktail competition, but this year they want to continue to improve and innovate. So they do well at Dorstig, that bartending. The cocktail they won with is based on Johnnie Walker's slogan 'keep walking'. Johnnie kept walking until he got lost in the Thirsty jungle of the Venloose tiki bar, ending with a fresh, spicy and strong cocktail. Of course it is now on the menu. At Dorstig you can relax on the sofas or on the high bar stools. The location is not large, but it is intimate and has a 'living room feeling'. Here there is room for having long (somewhat jolly, possibly) conversations or playing a game conjured from their games cabinet. The menu consists of various cocktails: the ones we know classics (pornstar martini with a bubble on the side remains a favorite) to cocktails with a surprising mix of ingredients and exotic names such as 'jungle bird'. With rum. Lots of rum.
At least you taste it a lot of love in all cocktails. And then they always taste just that little bit better. What they do at Dorstig, they do well: they use only the best ingredients (fresh, organic) and the uncomplicated drinks menu (we call snacks such as sweet potato fries and bitterballen) fits in perfectly with that. The best news? They also do workshops, so you can learn for yourself shake. Apple, egg. With help, that is.
Kannie should be missing from Thirsty's list of 'cocktail bars to visit in the Netherlands'. Neither does the (mini) hangover the next day, be warned.
