Wander Island Vinkeveen

Wander Island Vinkeveen

You know what it is? We’re just a bit ‘into’ Vinkeveen. And into Abcoude too, by the way, that picturesque village on the edge of the Vinkeveen lakes. It’s beautiful, peaceful, and you’ll find a few absolute gems of hospitality spots there. Like our beloved Vrijhaven Zwier, where you can spend the night in unique harbor cottages. Boat included Of course (duh, you're on the lake or not!).

From such a lovely harbor house, you step straight into an electric sloop and sail across the lakes towards Wander Island Vinkeveen. What a surprise That’s it! You moor at Island 1 (that’s really how the address of Wander Island Vinkeveen reads, and that alone is a treat!), tie up your boat, and walk straight into the beach-style pavilion. Hello holiday feeling!

Wander Island Vinkeveen

I have no idea about you, but we dream of having our own island on the Vinkeveen lakes. There are quite a few of those little islands with just a cabin for you, and most of them are already in the possession of a happy owner.ummer.

Fortunately, you can also simply set course for Wander Island. And let's be honest: while this place used to be perhaps mainly a very good reason for a pit stop by the water, there is now also plenty of reason to go there specifically for the food.

The cuisine features Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences, and the menu revolves around dishes meant to be shared. However, that doesn't mean the entire table needs to be filled at once. There are smaller and larger dishes, and two or three well-chosen items will go a long way towards a full dinner. Prefer to order a bit more and share everything? By all means, do so.

Among the dishes served was the côte de boeuf with fries. It is the kind of dish that really requires little else besides a good glass of red wine. And that is another nice detail: good wines that are normally served by the bottle can also be ordered by the glass here. Ideal when you want to drink something different with various dishes without ordering a whole bottle. Still have room? The chocolate fondant is one of those that deserves to be brought to the table after all. Share it, though, because actually, there was already more than enough for that.

So why would you make a special detour for Wander Island? Because by now, it’s no longer just about the beautiful island, the water, and the holiday feeling here. The cuisine is a serious contender. Add to that a fine wine list, a small beach, a waterside lounge, and the option to moor a boat, and you have the kind of place you’re happy to make a detour for.

You can also reach Wander Island Vinkeveen on foot as the island is connected to 'the rest' of Vinkeveen by a footbridge. But a boat is of course much more fun.
