From real pub tigers, art lovers, terrace hoppers to culinary foodies. And as you walk through the streets, you may not realize that Eindhoven is also very green. But it certainly is, so if you don't feel like the hustle and bustle? Then go cycling or have a picnic in the park.
We kick off with Woensel-West, a real working-class neighborhood that has developed into a trendy district. All kinds of cultures, creative people and architectural styles come together here, definitely worth a visit!
KEVN in Woensel-West, which is where the hip vibes of the city come together with a dose of unfiltered creativity. It is the house of makers and viewers, in the middle of the square with a large terrace. A unique building with robust wooden pillars and large windows all around. They tell the story behind KEVN with love when you are there. KEVN is full of exhibitions by creative artists and also has a wonderful living room restaurant and bar with cozy corners. Start with a coffee and end with a cocktail, oh and don't forget to order food in between. At KEVN they do not choose one type of cuisine, but have a mix of all kinds of different ones.
You can also find it in Woensel Van Alles and Co, where you really have anything and everything. This will immediately give you the urge to buy: everything in the shopping cart! Inside it is a cacophony of colors, vintage furniture and accessories. From authentic lamps, homemade candles to a coffee corner, so you can easily spend a few hours here. You can also spend an hour typing away on your laptop here!
The center of Eindhoven is a no-brainer: just find a time when it is not pleasant.
Barracks, in the center of Eindhoven and just one hop outside the busiest part. A tip-top design hotel with an applause-worthy restaurant in a former military police barracks. You will never be bored at Kazerne. Everywhere you look there are designer items and exhibitions (often with a link to the Dutch design Week). Here you can have a wonderful night's sleep, enjoy an extensive traditional Italian dinner or sip champagne at the bar. And those lovely people behind the bar are happy to tell you more about all the design.
A category of coming home, that is Vascobelo. A nice place for an extensive breakfast or to work all day with the laptop. They also serve a good cup of coffee, which is certainly not unimportant. That coffee is brewed at 92 degrees, no more or less, exactly 92 degrees, because that is how the blend tastes best. We don't blame them! So whether you come for a fresh croissant from the oven, a yoghurt-fruit-granola breakfast, a well-filled sandwich, a fresh juice or a cup of coffee to go: Vascobelo.
Little Mountain. Not really a place, but a lovely cozy street with small terraces, cocktail bars and enough restaurants to chat all evening. You can get through the street in no time, but don't walk too fast, because there is a lot. It feels a bit French, with those lights in the evening and people buzzing everywhere. So you have Brasserie Bellevue: an informal French city brasserie, as they call it themselves (oysters, fruit de mer, lemon soup). Or roll in at Bobby's Bar for an evening of sipping cocktails: be sure to ask about the gin of the month!
Kleine Berg is definitely worth a visit as one of the nicest (nightlife) streets in Eindhoven.
Food halls always make us happy. A food paradise, dishes from every cuisine and all different countries. You will find that at Down Town Gourmet Market: gyozas, sushi, tacos, pizza, burgers, ice cream, cheese boards. You can just walk around here, remember what you like, and then order at the table via the app. They bring it to your table, so there's no need to queue here. Are you busy anyway? Then order a matching drink, for example: a glass of sangria for paella or sake for sushi. Tada! Holiday in Eindhoven.
The NRE site, a former industrial estate (Utilities Region Eindhoven), with a rich history. The NRE site has had several guises since its founding in 1899. But in 2010, the municipality transformed it and made way for a creative city neighborhood. A place where people work, live and where culture goes well together. Oh and you have some really nice ones hidden gems, hidden in those robust old company sheds!
The lively NRE site has a few gems. For example, you can go to cycling café Cyklist, but also to FIFTH NO. A large, old-fashioned, industrial warehouse right on the open site, not to be missed. In this large, bright warehouse you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a drink all day long. There is its own coffee roaster, a large restaurant with really good food, a (cocktail) bar and a stage for (mainly) jazz performances.
Just as it should be: that is Cycling café Cyklist. There is no lack of coziness - it can't be otherwise when you put people with the same hobbies together. In the morning they gather for coffee and in the afternoon for drinks. Even if you are not really into the cycling scene, it is still a nice place to join. In the summer you can sit with your nose in the sun on the spacious terrace and on colder days nice and cozy inside. Wooden beams, round tables, racing bikes everywhere and a real collection of cycling clothing. Worn by the real top athletes. Tip: you can also rent bikes here by the way, that will definitely come in handy if you are going to hop around Eindhoven for 24 hours.
Strijp R was once the industrial heart of Philips and has now been transformed into a dynamic hub for art, design, technology and innovation. The old factory buildings here have been given a new purpose, partly thanks to Piet Hein Eek.
Designer Piet Hein Eek, who doesn't know him, studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. One thing led to another and now you can find Piet Hein Eek in Strijp R as a studio, hotel, shop, rooftop and several restaurants in one. This is the perfect place for a few hours of entertainment. Stroll through the studio, browse in the shop, buy something nice for home and take a seat in one of the restaurants. From young to old, buzz and liveliness everywhere – that creativity is palpable. The entire building is full of works of art, antiques and designer furniture. Wonderful to look at, and even more fun to have, but you have to dig deep into your pockets for this.
Then we roll on to Strijp-S, the vibrant center of Eindhoven. While Strijp-R has everything under one roof, Strijp-S extends around Ketelhuisplein. This industrial heritage has been transformed from a 'hidden city' into the Eindhoven epicenter of breeding grounds for all kinds of creative masterminds. There is plenty to do here: visit exhibitions, shop for real Eindhoven design, peek inside workshops such as New Order, Fashion or Broeinest and there are plenty of restaurants to relax in. If you have 24 hours to spend in Eindhoven, it is definitely worth a visit!
Former Strijp-S industrial estate boiler house en beer garden. Both nice places with good food, and both suitable for a good party. At the Ketelhuis you come for bread from their own bakery, honey from the bee colony on the roof, herbs from their own roof garden, olive oil from their orchard in Portugal, and meat and vegetables from local farmers. Creative, vibrant, delicious. At the Biergarten, you come for your share of comfort food, fun with friends and endless beer. The place to relax both indoors and outdoors until late in the evening. If you're in a crazy mood (maybe before you start drinking beer), you have the Netherlands' largest indoor skate park right next to the Biergarten. You can see the best skaters doing some serious stunts here, a kind of dinner and a show.
Last but not least, then we still have Stratum! A diverse neighborhood with all kinds of sights for your dose of cultural development. Visit the Parktheater, Wim van Doorne Music Kiosk or St. George's Church. But don't forget Stratumseind, where culture makes way for a hearty drink in Eindhoven's nightlife street.
