Afternoon tea at the Queen's favorite department store Fortnum & Mason in London
Cake lovers take note, this amazing one afternoon tea at the iconic Fortnum & Mason you don't want to miss in London. You may wonder what exactly afternoon tea entails. Well, in the Netherlands we have high tea, which actually comes down to the same thing: sweet treats, savory sandwiches, way too many cups of tea and if you really want to top it off, a glass of champagne. Every restaurant or department store has its own style when it comes to afternoon tea. We visited their favorite department store Queen (because that is of course our standard from now on). And we can already tell you, you will want to eat a cake here!

You certainly won't have missed it, Queen Elizabeth This year he has been on the throne for no less than 70 years. In honor of this event, the city is decorated with flags and works of art. Reason for a party, then! We visited one of the purveyors of the royal house. Department store Fortnum & Mason is not only one of London's chicest department stores, they are also known for the afternoon tea.
Rumor has it that it has the very best afternoon tea in London, and we can tell you: the rumor is true. You will be received in one stately hall on the fourth floor of the department store. The pianist provides atmospheric background music, the room is filled with people who all have a grin on their faces. Not surprising, when you see what goodies are on the table you automatically smile (and drool a little).
Our number 1 tip is come with an empty stomach, because you will leave with a full belly. Choice stress? The tea menu consists of no fewer than 54 different types of tea. There are four different menus, including a savory afternoon tea and a vegetarian afternoon tea. Almost too difficult to choose, but the staff is happy to give you a helping hand. When the etagères arrive, drool is almost dripping from your mouth. Fresh scones (with clotted cream, jam or lemon curd), cakes that almost look like works of art (almost too beautiful to eat) and next level sandwiches. Everything is served on the most beautiful and characteristic Fortnum & Mason tableware.
To be honest, it's not a cheap place to go. But if you go, you will enjoy this special event even more. It is an experience unlike anything we have in the Netherlands and special to be able to enjoy all that delicious food in such an iconic London location. Gather your company, put on your best clothes and head to Fortnum & Mason for the best afternoon tea in London!
