The Original Amsterdam Afternoon Tea at Hotel De L'Europe: an afternoon with flair
In the mood for a good day out in Amsterdam? An outing with flair? Incoming: The Original Amsterdam Afternoon Tea at Hotel De L'Europe. To start with, simply arriving at this iconic hotel in the heart of Amsterdam is a treat in itself. The lobby, richly filled with art and exuding an atmosphere of luxury, forms the backdrop for afternoon tea. Choose a spot with a view of the characteristic canal houses, settle in comfortably, and let the afternoon get off to a leisurely start.
As you would expect from a name like De L'Europe: everything is taken care of down to the last detail. High standards, without compromise. From the presentation to the flavors, and certainly the tea as well. During the afternoon tea, two carefully selected teas are served: a more robust, almost savory blend that pairs perfectly with the sandwiches, and a softer, more accessible tea that beautifully rounds off the sweets.
This tea is the result of a collaboration with 't Kleinste Huis, not only a tea studio but also actually the smallest canal house in Amsterdam. Worth a visit for that reason alone.
Inspired by the city itself, this afternoon tea tells the story of Amsterdam through taste. The absolute centerpiece? A handcrafted chocolate canal house, a work of art in itself. Every season, this centerpiece a new interpretation, as in this edition in collaboration with the Van Gogh MuseumThink of sunflowers and a passion fruit filling. Beautiful to look at, but above all: very tasty. All the creations manage to surprise, like the stroopwafel with caviar (wow!) and the perfect scones with De L'Europe chocolate sprinkles. That last part is just too much fun.
The flavors are perfectly balanced: nothing is too sweet or too heavy. Except perhaps the quantity. That is generous. Our advice: go for a light breakfast and make it a long, relaxed afternoon.
The Original Amsterdam Afternoon Tea is available on Saturdays and Sundays, with reservations between 14:00 and 15:00. Price: €79 per person or €99 including champagne. A vegetarian option is available. For more information, follow this link.
