A spring walk with a good glass of wine: you will find it at the Belaeving in Limburg (Helden).
De Belaeving restaurant and vineyard is located in the middle – really in the middle – of the forests of the Gruise Epper nature reserve. Yep, with ae. Because: Limburgish. It simply means, okay, this is a bit of an open door, the experience. That it is an experience, that is certain, because where oh where can you find that excellent combination of sports (we think so too, walking) and drinking wine from our own vineyard better than in the Limburg nature. Not in many places in our beloved country, then gogogo to North Limburg (Helden).
Go outside with or without a coat – that remains the question during spring in the Netherlands – and get up early: wonderful. On discovery. Explore the area on foot and enjoy the peace and quiet and some birdsong. It is possible in the Gruise Epper nature reserve. From small winding and crawling paths to vast stretches of white gold (aka asparagus) fields can be found here. We love that you can buy that white gold directly from the grower during the season (April to the end of June).
After your walk you prefer to sit on the terrace - although it is also cozy and cozy inside around the fireplace - of the Belaeving for wine, lunch or dinner. With your face in the sun and surrounded by vineyards. Nothing better than a good glass of wine after a long walk. Ultimate enjoyment in that spring weather. Through the forest you pass a small chapel - so light a candle - and you end up at the Belaeving. They serve simple but tasty dishes here, such as a salmon club sandwich (with sweet potato fries, yum) or, of course, a cup of asparagus soup. No fancy stuff, but genuinely tasty food because of the good ingredients they use. Of course you choose on the side for a glass of wine from our own vineyard. They have chosen to make wines based on Spanish, German and French grape varieties. With a unique concept, because these grapes need a lot of sun. Not always available in our little country. So they started planting in an old rose greenhouse in 2015. And it was a success, that's for sure. Favorite? The Chardonnay: white and full, summery flowers and a light citrus hint. We've been told.
At Belaeving they have also thought about the children. Next to the restaurant there is a wonderful nature play area for children. Everyone happy. The people at the Belaeving are extremely friendly and sweet, that Limburg hospitality, so who knows, you might stay here a little longer.
