Boutique hotel in Italie, South Tyrol

Haus am Turm + Ida apartments, Sud-Tyrol, Italy

The place to relax among the Italian Alps, whether it concerns winter sports in the snow or summer walks in the mountains. And a glass of nice wine anyway.

Located in the picturesque village of Sterzing in the Italian Alps, you will find the historic boutique hotel Haus am Turm, aka 'house near the tower'. The beautiful blue building is, as the name goes, next to the medieval tower of the village. A stone's throw from the boutique hotel, the owners also have about ten apartments under their name Ida Apartments. This stately building was once a haberdashery shop and has been transformed into a place with spacious, modern apartments, but with Gothic living rooms, star ceilings and graceful beams from back in time.

The eye wants something too

When you say historic, you may think of old junk and a dusty hotel from the year zero, but nothing could be further from the truth. Both locations, dating from the 15th century, have a whole lot of style. Think of a seating area in old-fashioned alcoves, stately doorposts, stately wooden doors (as if they came from a medieval castle), combined with sleek designs, Italian design furniture and beautiful oak wood that is featured throughout the building. The buildings may be old, but apart from the walls, doors and beautiful ceilings, they have been tastefully modernized while retaining their historic charm.

Oh a favorite: it killer roof terrace at Haus am Turm with views over the beautiful Alps and a sauna with a glass roof. After a long day of hiking, go straight into the sauna and end the day under the starry sky – nothing better than that!

Location, location, location

Haus am Turm and Ida Apartments are less than a minute's walk from each other. The Italian village of Sterzing (or Vipiteno in Italian - to avoid confusion) is located at an altitude of almost a thousand meters and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Sud-Tyrol. The village has nice colored houses, narrow shopping streets, and in the middle of the historic center is the monumental clock tower, and right next to it is Haus am Turm and Ida Apartments. Hence the name, and therefore mega-central!

The charming village is located in the middle of the mountains. In winter a snow paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. Think of the first lift up, skiing over the freshly groomed snow, or sledding under the starry sky on Italy's longest toboggan run. In summer it is a wonderful area for walking. Don't feel like being active: you can also enjoy bathing in the cooling mountain lakes during hot summer days. Or how about a cheese tasting in one of those nice huts in the mountains? Yes please.

Restaurants nearby

Perhaps the best thing about staying here is that they have a... award-winning wine bar and restaurant. In the same building as Haus am Turm, and literally around the corner from Ida Apartments, you will find VIN ZENZIf you sleep at Haus am Turm, you can roll out of bed in the morning for their special slow breakfast. But especially in the evening the place to be for delicious wine and dining. They serve Italian dishes with a twist, that change with the seasons and are made from fresh local ingredients. Although the menu is nice but small, this is not the case for the wine list: it is mega. With a choice of countless wines, this is the place for it wine & dinner in South Tyrol.

The right one is just around the corner Pizzeria Traube. And it is just outside the village farm to table restaurant Sprechenstein, where everything comes from our own country. Think of homemade cheeses, fresh harvest from your own garden and Patanegra. Mmm.

Rooms

Haus am Turm has twelve rooms, each suitable for two people, but often there is also the option to sleep an extra person or even two. Each room has its own unique features: for example, the Clock Tower room has a bath, while the Enzenberg room has a spacious balcony overlooking the gardens and the picture perfect to recover.

Ida Apartments has the same vibe as Haus am Turm, but the rooms are larger and offer options for more people (handy if you have kids). Also not a bad thing: you have the luxury of your own kitchen. Nice with the family, but also nice if you stay a little longer and/or work remotely. The stately historic building has ten rooms.

Each room has premium designer linen and comes with their own locally made bath care products.

Keffers & offspring

The kids can certainly come along: many rooms have an option for an extra place to sleep, or both places also have family rooms where you can sleep up to six people. Baby cots can also be placed, but please indicate in advance. Dogs are also welcome!
