A dinner party Café Binnenvisser on the Bilderdijkstaat in Amsterdam West will forever remain an oldie. A nice place with a relaxed vibe. This way you won't meet dressy people, but rather people who have a passion for good food and drinks. like us. Also a place that apparently does not pay much attention to the interior - mind you: apparently - and where both the food and the looks are precisely because of that nonchalance spot-on are. Highly recommended.
Owners Bob and Maarten worked together at Hotel Goudfazant. They became (or already were) friends and the love for the really good bar grew. They stood at the foot of what was also so beloved here FC Hyena, a few doors from Hotel de Goudfazant. It soon became clear that they wanted their own bar and when a picture of a building came their way, Café Binnenvisser was born. Friend Niels came up with the bar, chef Guus personally renovated his kitchen (which was fitted with bright blue tiles at the very last minute) and Bob and Maarten rolled up their sleeves to demolish that ugly suspended ceiling, which, as a gift, is a beauty of a high ceiling and stained glass windows came from underneath.
And we haven't even talked about the food yet. Yes, take a seat for that too. Guus, the chef, came up with a tiny, but more than fine menu with about 5 or 6 dishes that change weekly. Real bestsellers are (fortunately) returning, but the idea is that every week a different product receives a little more attention than usual. A plate of forgotten vegetables, for example. Or fish. Or a piece of meat that you normally wouldn't cook with. It is nice that there is equal attention for omnivores and herbivores, so you can sit with everyone. And you want that, because it's tasty. Too good perhaps. The button on the pants was about to burst. But totally worth it!
On to the wines. Because man, the extensive wine list alone will have you coming back. There is a huge choice of natural wines and you can order many by the glass. Are you in doubt (been there, done that) the gentlemen are happy to help you by tasting a few things. And if you stick to white, then also try the Chardonay from Domaine de la Cadette: no, we normally don't like Chardonnay either, but this one... But hey, let Bob and Maarten tell you and taste for yourself what the options are . They are the best at it.
Now comes the beauty of it all. All dishes are between €7-€15. So a bargain. A five-course dinner is also possible and prices vary between €29-€33. So you laugh yourself silly when you see the bill.
And now with pick-up and delivery, the quality and price that we know from De Binnenvisser remains. The same honest dishes, great prices (three courses for €23,50), bread from Niemeijer and a choice from the aforementioned wine list.
In short, a place where we always like to return. Always good. Always tasty. Promise.
