If you can't go to the zoo, you can still bring the zoo into your home: Google 3D animals

Another hour of entertaining the child (and ourselves). There was a real life 3D cheetah in our living room this afternoon. And a goat, a pug, a shetland pony, a wolf and a penguin. In the meantime, we FaceTimed grandma and grandpa in Brabant and there spontaneously was a horse in the hallway. They will also keep you busy for an afternoon. This new feature from Google comes at the right time. Using augmented reality, you can create a whole range of (wild) animals in your house or garden. If you can't go to the zoo, just bring the zoo into your home. You can read here how to get these 3D animals from Google in your living room.

It took some searching, but we found how to make the Google 3D animals appear:

  • Open your phone (Android 7.0 or iPhone/iPad iOS 11.0+)
  • Go to Google
  • Search for one of the animals below
  • In your Google search results, scroll down until you see the area below
  • Click on the button “View in 3D”
  • Find a place in your room or garden where you want the animal to appear
  • And just play

You can walk around the animals. Stroking the animal. And take photos or videos of this (just tap the screen and the photo button will appear). Are you all just as sweet again? Grandpa and grandma who we FaceTimed about it probably secretly thought it was even more fun than mini. The surprise for (grand)parents is greater because these are new features that we would not have thought possible before (or last week). A real crocodile in your garden. An eagle on your head. Or a snake in your bed.
Have fun!

We searched for the English names of the animals. The few animals we looked up in Dutch also showed the button. Just to be sure, the list is in English.

Alligator, Angler fish, Brown bear, Cat, Cheetah, Dog, Labrador Retriever, Pug, Rottweiler, Duck, Eagle, Emperor penguin, Giant panda, Goat, Hedgehog, Horse, Lion, Macaw, Octopus, Shark, Shetland pony, Snake, Tiger, Turtle, Wolf.
