The art of Studio Rienke: 1000 mini characters
Sometimes you come across something that makes you think, "Hey, this won't let me go." That is exactly how we feel about Rienke's work. Rienke from Rotterdam saw clay, had an idea, and started making the most beautiful little characters. Small vases, pots, bowls: all with unique characteristics and a unique look. After a first "drop," it is now time for the bigger work: 1000 characters and working towards a first exhibition.
In Studio Rienke's workshop, there is still a lot of clay lying around, unfinished, but with a clear idea: Rienke is starting a project in which she slowly brings an entire family of small clay figures to life: each with its own name, number, and character. Not a slick series meant for immediate sale, but a growing company allowed to exist as it is: crooked, shy, stubborn, or perhaps even far too prominent.
The ambition is high: eventually a thousand of these figurines. A number she finds a bit absurd herself, but that is precisely why it has a certain appeal—more of a horizon than a hard deadline. First, there will be 100 characters, which will be on display together in Rotterdam on September 26 (location still unknown) but open to the public, after which you can snap them up in her webshop, ha!
