Would we like to come and sleep under one roof with three goats? You understand our answer. Who was more excited, the little ones (1 and 2 years) or the moms (30-something), is still not entirely clear. After a one and a half hour drive from Amsterdam we are warmly welcomed by one beautiful Pippi Longstocking-like farm after another in picturesque Drenthe. Meadows, monumental farms, water, cows and horses make us immediately wonder what we are still doing in the city.

In the middle of these fields, and far away from the highway and big city, lies d'Olde Kamp. Here, six traditional turf huts have been converted into holiday homes. The comforts such as hot water, a bathroom and nice mattresses are there, but otherwise it is reasonable back to basics with no TV and sleeping in a box bed. How romantic do you want it? The fireplace can be lit and the wine can be opened.

One of these houses, and we had the honor, has a real goat stable at the back of the dining table. With a glass wall in between, because the smell has to remain somewhat pleasant, you can watch your own goats all day, night and especially the morning ("mommy, can I see if the goats are awake yet?"). . Do you understand the excitement now? From the mini holiday park you can walk straight into the woods and that is really beautiful. d'Olde Kamp is located on the Dwingelerveld National Park and whether you like short walks or hours of wandering, it is possible. There isn't much to see in the area, but that's what we come for, right? There is a nice bakery, plenty traditional restaurants (the chowder is ready!) and we also advise you to bring your own peanut butter, tea and wine so that you can curl up in front of the fireplace again after the walk.

The turf huts can accommodate 5 people. d'Olde Kamp also has two larger holiday homes for rent and there are about 40 camping pitches. Very nice for the new winter camping. When it is winter-winter, it is snowy and frozen beautiful here. In spring and summer it is of course wonderful to be in the warm outdoors. But even on a gray and drizzly day, we really enjoyed the peace, falling leaves and hot chocolate in autumn. When can we come again? d'Olde Kamp
