Fair Fashion: sustainable Dutch web shops
Choosing sustainable fashion is good for the planet, the makers and yourself. Less CO2 is emitted during production, scarce raw materials are used better and/or less water and toxic substances are used. The makers are paid fairly for their work and work under good working conditions. And clean clothes are better for your own health and for your conscience. So yes, we want fair fashion. But where do we buy this? See a growing list of sustainable fashion web shops here. So you can spend that euro on the world you like.
A good print never hurts no one, and a well-organized home-grown webshop with only beautiful brands, clearly displayed on a clean, no bullshit website, either. The two come together at the new Scoon Store, the webshop of two Dutch girls who have a one stop shop with beautiful sustainable items. And well, then you start it yourself. Everything you want can be found at Scoon (or: clean) Store (or: shop). Nice clothes (Reformation! Sissel Edelbo! Bower!), the perfect hat (OHDH), beauty products, sunglasses, etc. We are already fans, and they have only just started. The lists with gifts under 50 or under 100 euros are also useful. This way you are immediately presented with a tasty mix for the right budget.
Sisters Abigail and Lavinia have their own store on Amsterdam's Utrechtsestraat, the sustainable basics label GOAT and the webshop Geitenwollenwinkel. Dutch and international hot brands in eco and vegan clothing, shoes and accessories show off on the (digital) shelves. Such as Rita Row, Armedangels, Kings of Indigo, People Tree and Matt & Nat. Don't expect goat's wool looks. But sexy models, high heels, wide jeans, colorful dresses and cool jumpsuits. In addition to women's stuff, Geitenwollenwinkel also has stuff for men.
Another store with a first class webshop. Verse now has two stores in Amsterdam; Prinsengracht and De Pijp. But if you are not in the area, you can browse the Verse webshop. Same feeling as with the shop above. Certainly boring yet honest clothing. But then other brands. Verse has Embassy of Bricks, Veja sneakers, MUD jeans, Frisur, Pina Studio and the best raincoats from Maium. Also Rita Row, Kings of Indigo and Armedangels. For both her and him. And a whole range of accessories, jewelry, bags and interior items such as the finest candles from The Very Good Candle Company.
Hidden in a small street in Utrecht is the studio slash shop of The Domestic Botanist. Owner Marije sews her own sustainable collection in the studio. And she also sells brands that are not or barely available in the Netherlands. And yes, she has an online store. The brands Base Range, Mundaka Studio, House of Sunny and the bag brand Baggu shine in the (online) shop. The Domestic Botanist clearly has a more unusual style. And that immediately makes it clear that green is not mouse gray.
