The best activities in the forest of the La Plagne winter sports area for the family

Well... it remains a challenge: winter sports with the kids. Often too young to stand on the slopes all day. Combination is key: not just skiing, but alternating it with fun activities. The forests of La Plagne in the French Alps are ideal for a change. Also nice: the air is very oxygen-rich and pure with an exceptional wealth of animals and plants.

In Monchavin Les Coches in La Plagne they have the ideal solution for lugging all your stuff around. You can simply rent everything you need during the week. From a complete winter sports package to ski clothing, toys and children's beds and baths. Relatively cheap, more space in the car and ecologically responsible.

Spotting the big five is one thing bucketlist. thing, but about you bucketlist. You can also spot these in the Alps. And no, we are not talking about the lion, leopard, black rhino, forest elephant and buffalo. What are we talking about then? The golden eagle, deer and roe deer, snowshoe hare, chamois and wolf.

In the La Cembraie de La Plagne area you can tick off a large part of this list (at least the animal tracks are easy to find). Foxes, squirrels, ermines, hares and grouse live in this forest. Difficult? Yes, it takes some searching, but if you take the guides Philippe or Daniel with you, you will come a long way (and more importantly: you will not disturb the flora and fauna). The area is normally impassable, but because you put on snow-shoes, you can easily plow through the deep snow.

Build your own igloo

Build your own igloo

It may be a bit cold, but why else would you go to the snow? It's also something different: building your own igloo. Together with guide Guillaume, who also teaches survival techniques in the mountains in the summer, you will start building an igloo.

And anyone who thinks you are making a cute little igloo is wrong, because the result is a real one that you can also live and sleep in. Meanwhile, Guillaume talks about the different types of snow and how to live in the igloo. All information here.

Caniraquettes (into the mountains with a husky)

You no longer have to go to Lapland for the sled dogs; at La Plagne you have a similar experience. The activity starts in the middle of the forest of Les Coches where ten cheerful sled dogs greet you. Here you will first meet your husky friend for the next few hours.

Steve tells you all about his sled dogs, the history and how to handle and approach dogs. Not on a sled, but a walk with the husky where time flies. Halfway through the walk - which lasts about an hour - you will take a break in a beautiful place in the woods for a hot chocolate. The activity is suitable for children aged 8 and over, because the dogs are strong and can easily pull over the little kids.

Contact with trees during sophroski

Contact with trees during sophroski

It may be a bit vague and you have to love it: Sophro. A dynamic method of relaxation, briefly explained. During sophroski, guide Karine guides you through deep breathing and connection with nature. Then you will learn all about the power of trees (yes really) in reducing stress and improving health. Especially for people with fear of heights or slopes, this could be a very good way to overcome it step by step.

This sophroskiing is good for the kids. More information here.
