Wolkom in Friesland, it's always a party here

Wolkom in Friesland, it's always a party here

Friesland has the right mix between nature, cities and a good dose of culture. Just a little bit of everything and we love that. From boutique hotels, museums to forest mountain towers in nature, what? We'll come back to that later. We grabbed our overnight bag, threw the tank off the cross mobile full and go go go to the far North. Here's one tip: start packing, because after reading this article you'll want one too.

Fresh, natural, organic and fair trade products. Well, that's quite something and it's also delicious. By Kees is a good place for lunch or for a good cup of coffee, which is one of the things By Kees in Heerenveen is known for. And in addition to that cup of coffee, you also want one of the homemade cakes. They are already staring at you come. Is coffee not your cup of tea? You got it, tea it is. Vitamin deficiency? Order one of the juices or smoothies on the menu, our favorite the Sunshine with orange, carrot, ginger and lemon. Tasty and apparently very good for cell damage. We can be brief about the interior, slightly fresh without too much fuss.

Boutique hotel 't Gerecht

Boutique hotel 't Gerecht

Boutique hotel The Court can be found right in the center of the Frisian village Heerenveen. A strikingly beautiful monumental building from the outside with the provincial coziness on the inside, we like. Fifteen different suites, each with its own formal and casual looks. We slept in the Junior Suite, it felt a bit English, you know, pink walls, cozy wallpaper, herringbone floor and a showpiece in the middle of the room, a large bath. Cozy furniture and a bright lamp on the bedside table. The suites have everything you need, no more, no less. Also tasty, you can take a bath with the products Rituals.

This is where tax assessments and court rulings used to be made, but now years later bottles of wine are opened, which is humorous. You can go here all day long, from breakfast to dinner. What business to discuss? The Court got you corvered, with one of the halls. At the front there is a large terrace overlooking a pleasant square in Heerenveen.

Oranjewoud

Oranjewoud

You don't have to go to Apeldoorn or De Vuursche for royal forests. Friesland also has royal greenery: Oranjewoud it is. This royal forest is located east of Heerenveen and consists of a collection old school estates with long avenues, parks with spacious oaks and beech trees, a handful of remaining country houses, water features and small meadows between the forests. In the Oevertuin, across the street from Huize Oranjewoud, you can walk along winding paths, past artistically pruned hedges, a snake wall and herb garden. Also fun with the kids, walk and play around, fill the picnic basket well, bring some clothes and go.

Museum Belvedere

Museum Belvedere

And if you are in it anyway Oranjewoud is a visit to a museum Belvédère more than worth it. Belvédère is the museum for contemporary art, especially works
by Frisian artists and kindred spirits who are hardly shown in other public collections
be, cool right. You can experience Frisian culture here. Not only are the artists' works artistic, the building is also impressive. Sleek, clean and striking in the middle of the nature of the Oranjewoud. Even with heavy rain and storms, Belvédère is a beautiful place.

After a tour through the museum you can linger for what ever you want in the associated restaurant. Immediately picture-perfect view over the Oranjewoud.

The Post Office, Heerenveen

The Post Office, Heerenveen

The post office is a grand bistro in the center of Heerenveen. And when we talk about service, it is second to none here. Very friendly people who, together, do everything they can to make your evening go as it should collision. The passion shines through. The looks are what you would expect from a bistro. Cozy, warm and atmospheric, but at the Post Office you feel a cool swing. The dishes come from as much as possible Big Green egg and charcoal, cool and very tasty. And not only meat comes from the charcoal, but also fresh fish, vegetables and other vegetarian options.

At Bart we are not completely vegetarian, but when we eat meat, we make sure that it is sustainable. Isn't it a good thing that they came to the Post Office with the tastiest, freshest selection of sustainably matured meat. And oh oh oh, how tasty and perfectly cooked it was. Rishi, man in the front served us the tastiest wines and told us with a smile on his face what and why this was the best combination. Fun and useful, our wine knowledge has been updated again. We will remain short and sweet about the dessert: order the grand dessert with a glass after Rishi's recommendation.

The Boys from Outdoor, Appelscha

The Boys from Outdoor, Appelscha

Are you in? Appelscha, then a climb to the top of the photogenic Bosbergtoren a must. From this lookout tower you have a fantastic view of the surroundings! The tower is at the highest point on the Frisian mainland and is 33 meters high. In clear weather you can even see the cities Groningen en Leeuwarden lie. The design of the Bosberg Tower is based on a giant pine tree, which is interesting. And if you are on top of the tower enjoying that view, you can go under supervision The Boys from Outdoor rappelling down. It's exciting, you know that moment when someone says to you: yes, you can hang out now. Hang out? Huh? Where then, on this rope? Don't let go, we shouted at De Jongens van Outdoor 10 times, ha.

Then recover from the shock and recover by taking a nice walk through the National Park Drents Friese Wold and then settle down at it Outdoor Café from The Boys of Outdoor. From coffee to lunch and a nice drink, it's all possible here. They don't have electricity here, they just generate it themselves, which is cool.
