You must have greetings from abroad! (we are well insured, even during a pandemic)
Excuse me? But yes: you must have greetings from abroad! We're getting ready for it again. The prospects for 2021 are good and we are seriously eager to get on the plane again. That's us... But what good news is it when 'code green' triumphs again for everyone who has had to miss their family and loves for so long? For anyone who had big plans to emigrate abroad, perhaps for a few years? Are those plans now for an even longer period of time? on hold or is it possible?
The best tip we recently received was: 'take a look at OOM Insurance!'. This is a small Dutch insurance company that insures where other insurers stop. That's not a piece of cake - we did research and it really is true. In fact, the people at OOM had already included that option in their paperwork long before we ever had to deal with negative travel advice. And foresight is to govern, right?
Imagine... You have kids who are not yet required to attend school in 2021. And suppose you have spent most of the past few months (recovery: almost the entire year) indoors. Worked hard, spent little, followed all the rules... Wouldn't it be crazy to just take a break for 2 or 3 months? sneak all together? Create an experience for life. Yes, right? These are fun and exciting thoughts, but they often do not become reality due to practical 'obstacles'. Such as insurance: what if another pandemic breaks out? What if a (close) family member suddenly dies or becomes seriously ill? Or will we even get sick there? So you can insure those (last two) options! That is exactly true OOM Insurances takes into account and is good at. They insure you for all that kind of (blegh) matters and (especially) for those things that you had not thought of yourself.
We are there when someone else is not
We hear you say it... We therefore immediately asked OOM Verzekeringen ourselves. The answer? Wrong! The so-called 'expensive countries' such as the United States also fall within OOM's package.
And what about when you live abroad for a long time? Aren't the rules different there? Beats. But as long as you are Dutch, OOM will insure you according to standards based on the packages from Dutch health insurance. Just like you are (or were) used to in the Netherlands. Even if you didn't plan on ever coming back. But also the other way around: expats from abroad who are living in the Netherlands for a few years can also be insured by OOM. Sounds complicated, doesn't it? This is also proven by the website from OOM: nice Jip & Janneke style so that even we can make sense of it. Anyone who scrolls to that site will immediately see what OOM stands for: unusual insurance. Look. That is clear language and we like that. Using a simple checklist you can quickly see whether this also applies to your specific request (probably it does) and you can quick and easy be linked to the right people. Again: we like that. And who isn't.
Long story short: OOM Insurance is a bullshit-free insurer with worldwide coverage. They guarantee the coverage of your healthcare abroad as it is in the Netherlands and it does not matter where you are. For example, they arrange health insurance for family visiting the Netherlands or for your lover - All You Need is Love style - who is awaiting a residence permit - anything that deviates from the norm.
But... Isn't that ridiculously expensive? No! That's not too bad either. What we did not know, and we think most people do not, is that 'extortionate prices' often appear worldwide for all kinds of expenses related to illness. Appendicitis in America costs 50.000 euros (!) while in the Netherlands it is 1500 euros. The people at OOM know the standards, know who to call when and ensure that they and their policyholders pay the correct price at all times. To be clear: the right price for you is the Dutch price.
And what if you want to leave NOW? Now that the whole of Europe – or actually the whole world – is in 'orange' mode? Even Curacao perhaps soon…? Then OOM Insurance is also your man. The insurer also insures then. New niece in Spain? Mother-in-law seriously ill in Ireland? Your little sister to college in America? Go. But first contact OOM Insurance so that you can return home safely whenever you want.
Insure all your unusual risks OO insurance.
