You may remember when it opened (we do, and how) but that was six years ago. Six years! You wouldn't say it since 'het Volks' (for intimates) has not lost any of its luster. That's nice. This is perhaps due to the boundless energy of the large team behind Het Volkshotel, which is always looking for good people to fill their spot. Amsterdam people, creative people, enthusiastic people, people who have something to tell or play or draw. Or something else. Those people give the team behind the Volkshotel a platform. And that attracts people. Good people. Now it is hardly possible to list what the hotel organizes because it is a lot, very much. From feetofthefloor-all night long in the dark catacombs of the tent to artistic afternoons and exhibitions.

The epicenter, that is the ground floor indeed. Good simple menu on the tables, always a glass of water ready to tap yourself, a bartender or bartender who already has a look at you when you walk up and a delicious house newspaper with useful facts, interesting interviews and things to do to keep you busy. to while away time. But don't forget to take to the air too! Because there are 1) the hotel rooms (we will come back to that in a moment) and 2) you go up towards Canvas. On the 7th. Because you also want to go to Canvas: hotel guests have breakfast here, but non-guests are also welcome: for a mere 13 euros you can enjoy the breakfast buffet. Look. Thief of your own wallet. And it also feels so wonderfully international, having breakfast in a hotel. What is also 'international' is the view from Canvas. The best part are the seats right behind the glass where you have an unparalleled view of Amsterdam. In the summer the terrace is a must-see and even the way up is fun: here too, art changes wherever you look, always from relatively unknown talent that simply deserves a stage.

Gosh! And then I also have to talk about the hotel rooms! Whatever those are to write home about: a staycation, if you like more or less live in a neighborhood that doesn't break the bank and is still very special. The rooms are - surprise - remarkably affordable: you can sleep from 79 euros. If you are 'unlucky', the smallest room (nothing wrong with that) for two is 109 euros. Just sleep in Amsterdam for that.

Although we have to be honest: we especially love the Special Rooms of the Volkshotel. There are nine of them and we fell head over heels for it Bathing Bikou room, a room made of light wood and soft pink in which the Japanese bath ritual takes center stage. And yes, then you have us. The room is large (very large!) and you can almost swim in the unique wooden bath.
