Dogs welcome! The best little escapes (hotels and vacation homes) where your four-legged friend can join you

Okay, if we have to fly, that's fine. The dog often can't come along, but if it's a car trip, our faithful yapper absolutely has to come along. We love that. Favorite places to go with the dog? Absolutely! The list below is always the answer. Although the list is steadily growing! And for now, we'll limit ourselves to the Netherlands and Belgium for a clear overview. So, it's high time to book a weekend getaway. Dogs are welcome at these holiday destinations (hotels and holiday homes).

Finch Boutique Hotel, Deventer

Finch Boutique Hotel, Deventer

Finch Boutique Hotel is an attractive blend of history and that twenty-first-century luxury. Top-notch. Exactly what the owners had in mind. And all this in the heart of always lively Deventer. But another big advantage of Deventer is that it is also just around the corner from the Veluwe and the Sallandse Heuvelrug. You happy, and the dog certainly happy too. The dream was a hotel that offers just (or much) more than most hotels do. Nothing at all middle of the road practices. Finch is classy and chic on the outside and, although we hate the word, trendy on the inside. Without becoming too hip, if you know what we mean. Oh, and breakfast and a cocktail on arrival are simply included, by the way. And it’s not just the yappy dogs that are welcome, the kids too.

The Kastanjehof

The Kastanjehof

The only hotel in the Lage Vuursche that has this The Kastanjehof already an advantage. Haven't heard of this quaint, picturesque village before? That's not surprising, because fewer than 300 people live here. And lucky those who spend life in this oasis of green. Drakensteyn Castle is nearby (so beautiful) and you can play mini golf on the most beautiful course in Europe (bucketlist. thing). There are also plenty of cozy terraces and restaurants, beautiful cycling and walking routes, Hooge Vuursche Castle and Soestdijk Palace. And plenty of fun for the kids with horse riding, mini golf, pancake restaurants and climbing games in the forest. Read more about The Kastanjehof.

Under the Wool

Under the Wool

Are you planning a few nights in Friesland? Then curl up in one of the farm apartments Under the Wool. This old stilp farm is located in the Waterland of Friesland, an hour's drive from Amsterdam. Are you with a large group? In the winter months you can rent the entire farm. For you under wool snuggles around the campfire together (and the yappers).

Cocoon Houses

Cocoon Houses

Nowadays it is almost a must: you have to go out with your family and you have to contribute to nature. But… How?! Flying is not done and close to home is also true... Close to home. We want to chill and relax, but also experience something. We want affordable but also attractive. And we just want to have a good time together. Sounds impossible, doesn't it?

Hands on each other Cocoon HousesIn our opinion, this is the best tip for anyone exploring the Netherlands with their kids. There are not one, not two, not three, but four Cocoon Houses that truly live up to their name: one in Drenthe, one in Zeeland, one in Flevoland, and one in Limburg. Collect them all, we say. Everything has been thought of. Games in every drawer, and even relaxation entertainment has been considered: Netflix and Pathé are installed, and there's even a PlayStation with games. So there's really no need to leave the house. Outdoor play? Of course. Trampoline, tree house, play barn, and plenty of room for the little yappers.

B&B Kasteel Baexem

B&B Kasteel Baexem

B&B Kasteel Baexem In—it's all in the name—Baexem is a unique and special castle built in the seventeenth century in the thirteenth-century ancestral home of a true knightly family. Quite a mouthful, but what you should definitely remember: visit this hidden gem in Central Limburg. It's truly magical. The castle's interior exudes allure. The owners preserved the authentic details, but added twenty-first-century comforts. Such as comfortable beds, a good rain shower, and meticulously styled furnishings. Everything to love. Dogs are welcome in the Blue Room and the Garden House.

Pulitzer Hotel

Pulitzer Hotel

The program Pulitzer Hotel is located around the corner from the 9 streets, but still quiet. We can be brief about this: the location is simply perfect. You are everywhere no time. It is fun to rent a bicycle at the hotel: you can cycle around the city like a real Amsterdammer on a handsome Pulitzer bicycle. It's also nice: then you don't have to lug around your purchases. Nice Dutch atmosphere, not difficult, just nice and how it goes. Keffers up to the knee are welcome to join the party. Kroost, yes, nice. Load and go. At Pulitzer they have very nice family rooms. Enough space for everyone.

Lauswolt estate

Lauswolt estate

Those who love Downton Abbey also love it Lauswolt estate (and anyone who doesn't like Downton Abbey will still love the amazing estate). The enormous white country house on the wooded estate in the Frisian Beetsterzwaag is chic and chic. The entrance alone; via a red carpet you climb a staircase to the glass front doors of the enormous marble hall of the 5-star hotel. The door is held open for you. Your luggage taken to the room. The service is gentle and warm. For a moment you can imagine what it must be like to have blue blood.

The Chicken Family

The Chicken Family

Achterhoek calling! You'd easily miss this little piece of the Netherlands that touches Germany. A shame, right? Ever heard of The Chicken Family? You want it. It is a farm for six to ten people, in the middle of the greenery in the Achterhoek. The farm is located on a large piece of land surrounded by large trees and two ponds. And: your four-legged friend can come along. Kudos!

The daughter, Vera, and son of the Chicken Family have renovated the farm and the estate into a nice place. You have three bedrooms, each with its own style. This way you have a room with authentic details such as Delft Blue plates on the wall and furniture. We like it. The large living room has a Cozy seating area, a bar where you can have a drink (or two) and there is a country dining table where you can enjoy an extensive dinner that you have made yourself in the modern, all-out kitchen. A walk through the green garden with the large ponds where the little ones and the four-legged friend(s) can go crazy, go out with the canoes or visit the Alpaca ranch d'n Achterhoek. No kids in sight? A wine tasting it is at Wijngoed Montferland! Finally  plenty to do here.

Largo North Sea Resort

Largo North Sea Resort

The people of Largo hit the nail on the head with their slogan: just relax. Relax in luxury. Bacon to our mouth. It is extra nice that LARGO resorts are always near water, whether it is a lake, the sea or a puddle. After all: water is part of a holiday. And luxury too, we think. And what that luxury looks like sometimes varies. It's nice that the people at Largo also take this into account, because you can reach it LARGO North Sea Resort Vlissingenchoose from three different cottages at one of the many Largo destinations in the Netherlands.

Small and charming, right on the beach? More space and greenery? Or a full villa with a sunny garden? It's all possible. Oh, and all three are just a stone's throw from the sea and Vlissingen. This is pure enjoyment, nestled between the city and the beach, with both nature and culture. Vlissingen, here we come.

Hotel de Wereld, Wageningen

Hotel de Wereld, Wageningen

In the east of the country and above the Lower Rhine you will find Wageningen: the student city par excellence (which is always good for its liveliness, creativity and drinks places) and the city where you Hotel de Wereld finds. Contemporary, but with a historical twist. The rooms go from stark white with few details to warm colors and soft colors. Some rooms have fun details (looking at you Astrid Lindgren) like a playful swing on the ceiling. You can dine at Lev, het in-house restaurant of Hotel de Wereld. All dishes are more like intermediate dishes in size, so ideal for sharing and tasting everything. Regional products are central, the hospitality is on and there is plenty to choose from in terms of drinks, from locally brewed beer to very fine wines.

Pets are allowed in some rooms (not all, so please check before booking). Until 17:00 PM, dogs are also welcome in the restaurant and on the terrace until the wee hours.

City Hotel Wood

City Hotel Wood

Middelburg is located on the canal in the center of Middelburg, which is always nice City Hotel Wood. Let's start with one of the highlights: vegetables take center stage in the hotel restaurant, The Greenroom, but meat and fish are also available for those who prefer them. They use as many unprocessed, pure products as possible, and yes, they are incredibly delicious. Raw and fresh are the guiding principles of The Green Room restaurant. Everything is homemade and organic where possible. Long story short: very modern, very delicious.

Inn on the Lake

Inn on the Lake

You'll just have to take our word for it here: Inn on the Lake is a mere fifteen minutes by car from Amsterdam Central, but you end up in a different world. Think of green gardens full of flowers, dreamy lakes to float through in a boat and somewhere along such a lake is the guest house of your dreams. You sleep in an old parsonage with three rooms, located on a small lake in Broek in Waterland. Personally we get it here full on notebook vibes, but without the drama. It is not surprising that this place is popular with newlyweds. But you don't have to be a brand new lovebird to have a good time, it's also an excellent place for us 'normal' people. Each room has its own color palette, from luxurious black and white to warm Italian red and all kinds of shades of blue. If you go for the first color combination, you will end up in a double room that could just as well have been a hotel room in terms of luxury, but a little more personal.

Chateau St. Gerlach

Chateau St. Gerlach

There are many fairytale castles in the south of the country. Chateau St. Gerlach in Valkenburg is one of the best, most beautiful, most atmospheric places of all. Bistrot de Liège is located in the middle of the special chateau. The former living quarters, kitchen and dining room of Baron de Selys de Fanson form the setting of the restaurant. The rooms seem to have stood still in the past and have been completely preserved in perfect condition all this time, while the dishes of the chef and team on top of the world are. The team cooks with ingredients from their own estate and from the region: honey from their own bees incorporated into the sweets of the High Tea. From this. And when the weather is nice, the Bistrot terrace is tempting.

Boutique Hotel Beekhuizen

Boutique Hotel Beekhuizen

Quirky places are precisely those places that we love and look for. Well, another one has been found. Boutique Hotel Beekhuizen, in a beautiful location in the Veluwezoom National Park, is small and cozy, wonderfully quirky and jaw dropping attractive. The hotel is just the right size, the rooms are spacious and light and you also have plenty of space outside. For yourself, your family or the other person lucky one Who's welcome to come along? In Veluwezoom National Park, and therefore absolutely fantastic. Peace, nature, hours of fun walking with your four-legged friend, cycling routes, bridle paths – think of anything in nature and you'll find it at Hotel Beekhuizen (and so too, wild boar, badgers, roe deer, and deer!).

De Wilmersberg estate

De Wilmersberg estate

In the shadow of cozy Enschede (Enschede cozy? Yes, really) we found one of our new favorite retreats in our own country: De Wilmersberg estate In De Lutte, tucked away in the beautiful green heart of Twente in the eastern Netherlands. We could tell you all about it, but what we'd especially like to share is that at Landgoed De Wilmersberg, we FINALLY found a hotel where you can bring kids, four-legged friends, discerning (vegetarian) friends (because it's beautiful, delicious, and has a fantastic spa), and your parents (because of the no-fuss, relaxed atmosphere) with peace of mind. Hehe. Kudos!

Beach houses with your four-legged friends

Beach houses with your four-legged friends

Beach house Molecaten, Cadzand-Bad. A sustainably built designer beach house for six people and two four-legged friends. Yes, not bad! Beach and sea views, panoramic views, and a veranda. Reservations can be made here.

Beach camping Groede. This campsite on the Zeeland coast has panoramic houses! Not just any houses. If you open the doors you can walk straight onto the veranda, from there you can walk with the dog (at some of the houses!) onto the beach and from there you can walk straight into the sea again... And that's not even mentioning the view spoken! Hence the name of course. Beach campsite Groede it is!

Booking.com doesn't just offer hotels; travelers can now choose from over 30 types of alternative accommodations, including country houses, charming B&Bs, and for the adventurous traveler, even boats, igloos, and tree houses.

Beach Houses Key West has brightly colored houses on the beach of Katwijk aan Zee. No slick interior in fifty shades of white (impractical, with kids and a dog). The beach pavilion lovingly organizes a BBQ right in front of your own house (how cozy is that). Here you can get your house.

Sun opulence. This place right on the beach has beautiful beach huts where (some of them) you can bring your four-legged friend! Just indicate and you can enjoy the sand, the sea and the water together the beautiful beach dormitories. Think of two (!) terraces, a kitchen with all the trimmings, a bathroom that is as a bathroom should be and then the most important thing... The view. So beautiful to cry!

Boutique hotel Het Weeshuis

Boutique hotel Het Weeshuis

It was once a monastery, then the building became an orphanage, and in between things changed for a while the homebase of books (as a library) and now.. Now we can sleep in Relais & Châteaux Orphanage. A true slumber party grown-ups. Upon arrival, drop off your suitcases and be completely pampered (fresh Gouda stroopwafels upon arrival included, just saying). The only worries there in Gouda? Whether you are enjoying it hard enough. That is important, because the new WSHS in Gouda is not one that you can just forget.

Boutique Hotel d'Oude Morsch Leiden

Boutique Hotel d'Oude Morsch Leiden

This boutique hotel was once the guardhouse of the former Morspoort barracks in the city center of Leiden, five minutes from Leiden Central station. The infantry and mounted units stayed there until 1940, after which it was the place for training to become a corporal-cook for the defense department. Nowadays it is the pride of Yorick and Reanne Bakker, also owners of De La Soul and Scarlatti in Leiden. They combined the historical context of the location with contemporary robust materials such as steel, concrete and tiles in various shades of green and white. There are eighteen rooms, all different, but unmistakably one whole. And beautiful, did we mention that? You don't have to leave the house, thanks to the café on the ground floor.

't Witte Huis by Mölle, Dalfsen

't Witte Huis by Mölle, Dalfsen

If we were to work with stars here on this site, we would The White House there are five. Or six if possible. In the category 'charming' and 'romantic retreat for two', the little white house is three times stumbling from a forest, completely out of it. The studio – once inside you will find everything in one beautiful space and so we call it a studio – is what you call 'finished' from A to Z. Fluffy bedding, soft gray tones that coordinate perfectly everywhere you look, from the walls to the accessories, wood in the fireplace, shiny polished wine glasses for the taking and the candles ready to be lit. If you can pull yourself away from your temporary home and hearth (great), you can walk a wonderful route to the Horte nature reserve. Not too long, not too short. Fine.

Bosvilla Kennemerduinen, IJmuiden

Bosvilla Kennemerduinen, IJmuiden

Hell yesThat's precisely why you come here (besides the incredibly well-appointed interior with all the trimmings): enjoying the best of our own (North Holland) countryside with the whole family. Children and yappers alike can't go anywhere, because everything is closed off. Not that they'd want to, mind you: the grounds around the house—call it the garden—are fantastic, thanks to beautiful vegetation, a huge hammock, and an equally large trampoline. Kids can let off steam on the soccer and volleyball fields. Pure bonus.

The Duke, Den Bosch

The Duke, Den Bosch

The Duke Hotel: a handsome, urban cool hotel in dark colors, with cheerful white slogans on the walls (provided you take the stairs, you should). It also has a lounge-slash-breakfast room where you can not only have a very good breakfast (fresh salmon, eggs any style(a selection of meats, pastries, and cheeses, more than adequate), but also functions remarkably well for a (business) meeting or a quiet laptop session. But the rooms are truly something to write home about: the same dark beauty, gorgeous gold faucets, and matching rain shower. The most fantastic room is the one on the roof. Yes, on the roof, and it's almost entirely made of glass. What does it cost? Around 200 euros per room per night (and that's the most expensive room; the rest are much cheaper).

The Duke, Den Bosch

The Lochemse Berg

The Lochemse Berg

A gem (recovery: pearl!) in Gelderland where we have already stretched ourselves a few times, and where we are still staring at it: The Lochemse Berg. Create a forever favorite hideout in the eastern Netherlands. We dare to say that out loud. Dogs are still welcome on request (provided it is possible and suitable, always check in advance). Go! Quickly pack your bags and enjoy the sun and the wooded surroundings on the (hello, handsome) garden terrace. Just turning your ass to order drinks at the bar every now and then and then quickly back to you chill spot. Or go on a Gelderland adventure in the beautiful surroundings: the hotel is half in a forest and walking is a gift in this season.

You end the day at your 'own' private dining table.

Hotel Katoen, Goes

Hotel Katoen, Goes

In Goes, where the "G" is replaced by an "H" (meaning "deep") by the locals, the former chef of Brasserie Appelmans in Antwerp opened one of Zeeland's nicest, or at least most modern, brasserie-hotels in 2015. The idea: Appelmans' (good) food complemented by luxurious bedrooms in the former Goes city archives. And so it came to pass. First, the brasserie: there's a large terrace flanked by a wall of terracotta plants on a cozy, somewhat hidden square. Inside, a large bar takes center stage, surrounded by round tables and both high and low tables for two or four.

You must do this, Hotel Cotton.

Through an open window at the back of the restaurant, the chefs continuously push uncomplicated, delicious Dutch dishes into the restaurant. Chunky sandwiches with shrimp croquettes, toasted sandwiches, a classic midday meal (soup, bread, smoked meat, salmon or cheese and a croquette), tenderloin steak, cod and goulash. But also homemade lemonade and Katoen's ice bucket: fresh soft ice cream with a fun fair of garnishes. At the 23 rooms of Hotel Cotton you enter through a modern concrete hall that connects the two buildings. The hall leads to a white staircase that takes you to the rooms, from regular bedrooms for two to luxury suites that can also accommodate a family for a few nights. There are two of the latter and you reach them via a walkway that provides a view of the roofs of Goes. Favorite? The suite with the loft. On top of the loft there is a large bed with creaking white linen - a handsome boy who can still get out of there. Or it should be for an extensive bathing session in the freestanding bath under the historic old trusses.

Huis ter Duin, Noordwijk

Huis ter Duin, Noordwijk

Never underestimate the power of a really good classic, do we need to explain that? And yes, it is really true that the pitfall with such a sincere classic is that it can be a case of 'faded glory'. And nobody likes faded glory. That's why you have to separate the wheat from the chaff and/or just listen to us, because although there are certainly some seniors bouncing around at Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin right on the Noordwijk beach, the 256-storey hotel stole our hearts as soon as we entered: young people behind the counter who understand that the customer is king and that both boys and yappers are sacred. When you arrive at the room, Huis ter Duin doesn't just see itself as one pet friendly hotel mentions: in the room there are food bowls, sweets (for the dog), a lovely bed and special towels to dry your friend with after the beach walk. Anyway, everything you want in the most comfortable way possible. In addition, there are sweet assistance dog cuddly toys for the children who have their keffer with them: Huis ter Duin is a sponsor of Hulphond Nederland and regularly lends their hotel for the foundation's events.

And further? Furthermore, the hotel is just absolutely wonderful. Classic without being stuffy. The outdoor entertainment is particularly enjoyable: in the summer months there is a lovely private terrace with cozy bars and right in front of the door on the beach you really want to spend an evening/afternoon (or both) at the beach pavilion. Breakers Beach House (open all year round). A door further is the accessible Salt, a delicious blue-and-white fish restaurant in the atmosphere of Club55 (in the South of France, yes). Oh yes, the lobby bar has that just-right brown-café look! Another oh yes: you can also give your dog to the sitter if you don't want to leave it alone for too long. How sweet is that? And the last thing: there are more restaurants, one of which also has a Michelin mention. We'll go back for that again.

Den Bosch suites

Den Bosch suites

There are two locations Den Bosch suites. Establishment one at the Verwersstraat, number two is at the StationswegBoth are located in the heart of the Brabant capital. In total, the locations have twelve suites. No, not rooms: suites. That's honestly the correct term. Favorite location? Difficult, but for now, let's take the one on Stationsweg, a beautiful historic building with grand, wide staircases and authentic banisters that spiral upwards to the attic, providing magnificent views, both from above and below. The rooms (correction: suites) are each small, charming ballrooms (also for Skippy/Kwispel/Willem or Bobby the dog to bounce around in) and have beautiful bathrooms. Everything is well-maintained, sparkling clean, and has a touch of well-chosen, unobtrusive kitsch. Each suite features a fireplace (yay!) and a featherbed. Hostess Danielle understands her guests' needs and is a hostess we'd love to see more often.

Hotel Frenchie Haarlem

Hotel Frenchie Haarlem

Frenchie Restaurant We already knew it in Haarlem. And we were quite a fan of the restaurant (named after the house dog = 10 points). A big plus when the entrepreneurs above the business also opened five pictures of hotel rooms. The name? Hotel Frenchie. After all, why make things difficult when you can keep things simple? This small-scale four-star hotel consists of two luxury suites and three comfort rooms. It's certainly an Urban Luxury Hotel. Okay, fine. Just give us the room with the bath and you won't hear from us again. Ready to sleep already? Good idea: the hotel serves a four-course dinner from Thursday to Saturday. This is delivered to your room per course, just like breakfast the next morning.

Hotel Modez, Arnhem

Hotel Modez, Arnhem

Anyone who delves even a little into Dutch fashion knows that the only major fashion academy is located in Arnhem (ArtEZ Academy of Fine Arts), and the name Piet Paris (Pieter 't Hoen) should ring a bell. This fashion illustrator of stature—though not in terms of stature, mind you—devised in 2012 that Arnhem was ripe for a fashion hotel. He went to his studio and came up with the idea of opening a hotel in the Klarendal neighborhood, the heart of the Fashion District, where the twenty rooms would be decorated by fashion designers, most of them former students of the academy. A particularly good idea that also turned out remarkably well. Each room is inherently unique, although you can choose from four different room types: the Small Room, the Comfort Room, the Loft Room, and the Deluxe Room with a mezzanine.

Hotel Modez, Arnhem

B&B LE RêVE Maastricht

B&B LE RêVE Maastricht

Maastricht, it is our own piece of abroad in the interior. Plus: you only have to leave the city a bit to walk in the middle of the rolling landscape, great for those who want to go out with the faithful. One of the nicest places to stay is B&B Le Reve. A beautiful nature reserve and the Curfsgrove on one side, the city center of Maastricht on the other. The owners, Frank and Karin, have a preference for the Limburg landscape, urban farming, an honest and sustainable lifestyle and the gastronomy of Maastricht (Frank also offers cooking workshops, just so you know). A winning combination. They opened their minimalist but more than luxurious B&B, which has six rooms, in a historic farmhouse that they renovated themselves, while retaining authentic elements. Get up in time for breakfast at the long breakfast table where Frank provides a fried egg with bacon, different types of jam, cheeses, meats and freshly baked bread.

B&B LE RêVE Maastricht

By the way, they are classics Galerie Dis and the Kruisherenhotel in Maastricht Dogs are also welcome, that's besides the point.

Country house Hotel Rikus, Eext (Drenthe)

Country house Hotel Rikus, Eext (Drenthe)

This Drenthe country house was built in 1922 as the mansion of Hendrikus, the namesake of the current Country house hotel Restaurant Rikus. In 2015, the place was renovated by Wyncko and Ellen, the couple who also run De Jufferen Lunsingh (where your keffer is also welcome). A dream of an address with the warmth of the countryside and the style of the city in a monumental building. The outside remained as it was, inside Rikus was fresh and modern with high windows through which the light stumbles in beautifully. At Rikus you can eat, have meetings, have drinks and spend the night in one of the eight beautiful hotel rooms, all different, all with a view of the aforementioned rural environment. First take a walk in the beautiful surroundings and then relax in the chairs of Restaurant Rikus. Everything on the table comes from the area.

Country house hotel Restaurant Rikus

Even the bar and the tables themselves were made of wood from our own forest. The steaks come from cattle that graze on our own meadows, the vegetables come from our own greenhouse and vegetable garden. In the summer Rikus is completely self-sufficient and cooks with the harvest of the day. There's no music playing there, are you crazy? Crowds stay outside. Rikus is at peace. You automatically leave your cell phone in your bag (the fact that the range is short also helps). There is no city nearby, but there is a fireplace to hide in front of.

The beach hotel, Cadzand

The beach hotel, Cadzand

“Let's book a weekend by the sea!”. Good plan. There's a good chance that you think of Scheveningen, Zandvoort, one of the Wadden Islands or possibly Domburg in the Netherlands, right? Shame! Because one of the nicest hotels is right (but literally) on the beach Beach hotel Cadzand-Bad. Cadzand-Bad? More oui! An unsurpassed coastal town in our own country with the wonderful mundane atmosphere that comes with Knokke, a little further away, combined with the down-to-earth atmosphere of the Netherlands. The best of both worlds and the wildly attractive Strandhotel forms the unmissable epi-center. Read more about Beach hotel Cadzand-Bad.

Het Roode Kooper estate

Het Roode Kooper estate

A different kind of un-Dutch luxury with the classic The Roode Koope Estater, in the middle of the Veluwe (remains impressive in its own country). The estate may seem a bit stiff at first, for example when you visit the website. That old chic that may be nice, but is also a bit out of date. Wrong. Don't be put off by a sometimes somewhat old-fashioned approach: once inside you will notice it fancy accommodation address is much more contemporary than you think. It's all about the friendly staff who know how to offer a luxury that is timeless and for all ages. A bit like the British do best: looks chic, but with a mug of beer on the table. So to speak. The stables have room for guest horses (yes: bring your own horse), the large heated outdoor swimming pool is on par with a hotel on a mountain in Italy, a day of sailing on Lake Veluwe is arranged in no time, just like a visit at the Kröller-Müller Museum. Especially it monumental riding school, a beautiful villa with spacious rooms in the large private garden and with a view of the woods is impressive. Oh, and Het Roode Koper has a great kitchen where they cook with ingredients from the region and their own gardens.

Lodging on the Vecht

Lodging on the Vecht

We cannot emphasize it enough: never underestimate the power of a really good classic. The small-scale hotel Lodging on the Vecht There is one such in Breukelen (they call themselves a B&B by the way). A pearl. As the name suggests, Logement aan de Vecht is located right on this old river. In this beautiful country estate from 1721 you will find exactly that unsurpassed atmosphere so called times long past without anything being dusty or out of date. There are six impressive rooms. All different in size and design, all tasteful, antique, equipped with every possible modern comfort and of course with a private bathroom.

Barracks Eindhoven

Barracks Eindhoven

In Eindhoven they are good at filling vacant industrial properties. Just look at Strijp S and Strijp R. The same thing also happened in the Bergen district, where an old fire station on Paradijslaan was given a new purpose: Barracks. Two restaurants were added, the fine dining restaurant Benz and the more accessible bar/restaurant Kazerne. And a hotel that, nice and clearly, was also named Kazerne. There are only eight rooms, but one of them has no less than 140 square meters (!) and each room and suite has been decorated with work by young and upcoming design talent. There is an exhibition space of 2500 square meters and it is, by far, the most artistic residence in Eindhoven. Dogs welcome, but you already knew that.

Hotel Beijers, Utrecht

Hotel Beijers, Utrecht

The little one is unexpectedly nice and fun Hotel Beijers in the center of Utrecht. You'll find the hotel in the monumental building in Achter Sint Pieter. If you know the hotel and think... Uh, okay? That's possible, but what the fuzz? Then, in mid-2020, a new operator, a young team and a collaboration with the Utrecht Soepbar, will move into the site. The beautiful 17th-century building is now run by the people of Utrecht City Concepts, a company with several hotels in the city (all top ones such as the Mother Goose hotel and it Eye Hotel). They kept the colorful artistic nature of the hotel but gave the place a serious dose of flair oempf and 2020. To be continued because really so much fun!

P.S. Bee Grand Hotel Karel V Dogs are also welcome and that is also a great tip in Utrecht.

Hattum Castle

Hattum Castle

We spontaneously want to get married (again). Hattem Castle is –you guessed correctly– a sweet castle (fun fact: smallest in the Netherlands) in nice Hattem. You can sleep there, get married if you want, you can dine there and enjoy the lovely terraces. With the sun shining, it is wonderful to relax among the centuries-old trees.

Bosvilla Kennemerduinen

Okay, one more... The perfect holiday home a stone's throw from Amsterdam on the North Holland coast where - drum roll - dogs are welcome by arrangement! The villa, Bosvilla Kennemerduinen is the name, is located in a beautiful spot in the dunes of IJmuiden (and therefore close to our favorite beach bars Aloha and Timboektoe in Wijk aan Zee (or actually it is Velzen Noord there - peteeto petaatoo: it is 20 minutes by bike, and on the way you take the ferry: double fun).
