Hotspots in the Hanseatic city of Hattem

Hi, ha. Hattem. This cute town is located between the northern edge of the Veluwe and the IJssel. Hattem is a city in the small but nice category, but definitely worth it. Beautiful alleys, good restaurants (Voorburcht and Bij de Jongens, do it!), a sweet Bakery Museum and plenty to discover for yourself. Here is a list of them hotspots in the Hanseatic city of Hattem.

The 'Kleur de Hanze' event is on from December 22 to 30! And that's quite a teamwork project, because everyone can participate! You download a coloring page, color it (or let the kids do it) and then you upload it again.

Picture perfect places

Picture perfect places

Hattem is one picture-perfect town that has already been put on canvas by various painters. You can follow in their footsteps and sit by the IJssel with brushes and easel or take the easy way out and have fun with your camera. Or not, just watching is also great fun. Take a tour along the city wall, it Daendelshuis. Then Daendelspoort and the Knight's Gate. Beautiful snapshots guaranteed! Need extra inspiration? Then a visit to it Anton Pieck Museum a no-brainer. Photo on the right was Restaurant 't Spookhuys (now restaurant Voorburcht) and this building is the outer bailey of Kasteel de Dikke Tinne. Kasteel de Dikke Tinne had the thickest walls in the Netherlands: no less than seven meters thick!

Bakery Museum

Bakery Museum

Bread, bread and more bread. It Bakery Museum is highly recommended, especially with kids. 'Bread shows' are held in the museum theater and during the children's baking afternoons, children can make their own cake under the supervision of a baker. While they are busy working, you as a parent can relax with a cup of coffee and a delicious baked goods in the Poffertjessalon.

Making chocolate is also a real craft. Bee Candy workshop A3 they understand how to practice that craft at its best. The choice is huge, with about a hundred types of chocolates in the range (and shoes, windmills, beer glasses, you name it: everything made of chocolate). Ideally you want everything. Naturally, A3 also participates in the biennial Chocolate Festival (next in 2024). In fact: A3 is (co-)organizer! You've also come to the right place for artisanal ice cream, they do that too.

By the way, the chocolate workshop is diagonally opposite Everyday Bread & Coffee. Certainly not a punishment to walk in here for your, right, sandwich and coffee. Just good sandwiches without any nonsense.

Brasserie de Markt & Bij de Jongens

Brasserie de Markt & Bij de Jongens

The catering industry is doing well in the heart of Hattem. No matter how small Hattem is, on every corner you will find a sandwich shop, cafe, restaurant or other nice place. You can enjoy lunch, dinner or drinks all day long Brasserie de Markt. A bit of a living room atmosphere, with lots of plants and dark tones and typical brasserie dishes: not too much fuss.

With the boys and girls of With the Boys there is a more international breeze blowing and the dishes are more refined and original. Asian tuna with sanbaizu marinade and kimchi, peppers with pico de gallo and crispy corn, veal tenderloin with chicharron chips: dishes that you don't easily put on the table at home (at least we don't). Good food for a nice price, highly recommended! There is also a lovely terrace on the market square, with a view of the Town Hall.

Restaurant de Voorburcht

Restaurant de Voorburcht

Restaurant de Voorburcht is located in the last standing part of the outer bailey of Dikke Tinne Castle. In this old building you can choose a three-, four- or five-course menu with matching wines or beers, or simply á la carte, no problem. Vega's don't have much choice, but they do have interesting dishes such as ravioli of kohlrabi and rendang of pointed cabbage or linguine with celeriac and beurre blanc. Very nice sitting here. Ghosts have not been seen for a while, so you can take a seat in this castle with peace of mind.

They also have a very nice beer list: not a lot, but good beers from good breweries and different styles. This way, instead of wine with your food, you can also choose a suitable beer.

De Voorburcht is closed on Sunday and Monday, so keep an eye out for that.

Sleeping: Aparthotel Hattem

Sleeping: Aparthotel Hattem

The only hotel in this Hanseatic city, that is Aparthotel Hattem. The building dates from the sixteenth century and was a butcher's building. Fortunately, you don't notice it at all anymore, because the inside is luxurious simplicity in an authentic atmosphere and a modern-classic appearance. Contemporary history, so to speak. Another nice detail from earlier times is the pink pig that peeks out of the facade of the Aparthotel.

Oh and be sure to book breakfast! All products come from local entrepreneurs and it won't cost you even ten euros. Good start to the day!
