6x the best of the Frisian Dokkum

Dokkum? Where is that again? We had to look it up again, but we are talking about a city in the municipality Northeast-Fryslân. And you know... That quintessential Dutch mini-city is honestly SO much fun. We really enjoyed ourselves there, and that is almost an understatement. That calls for an overview... Here you go! Here are the best things about Dokkum. Go, and enjoy yourself (and your offspring).

Right at number 1: Cozy Coffee Bar in Dokkum. For the simple reason that it is very good, very warm and – we don't really want to say it but we will anyway – very cozy. There is a young guy at the helm, and you notice that in everything. Refreshing. The reason to start his Knus coffee bar, we asked? Well… Because I like making people happy, making beautiful things and having fun, was the answer. Once inside you immediately understand: that answer immediately sums up everything. The nice tent is divided into a downstairs and an upstairs. Downstairs there is a very elegant play area the little ones. Again: refreshing! Your best place for coffee and treats. Especially the latter: it's really tasty, and homemade too! Just opened, so gogogo, check it out!

While we are summarizing this Dokkem list, we think... Wow, Dokkum, you look like a metropolis! So many nice things the small Frisian city secretly has to offer; you probably didn't see that coming. You can also add it to the list Nyn Styles the little ones, Dokkum absolutely not missing. You will find, you guessed it, the most beautiful brands for the (very) little ones. From Scandinavian splendor to busy Spanish prints from the well-known brands Play-up or Bobo Choses. Minirodini and the Dutch Repose are also represent. Love. You will also receive perfect (friendly but polite) help from the lovely ladies of Nyn Styles. Anyway, we walked out the door with full bags as usual. Ouch. But yay.

Some of the sweetest girls promptly sent us a message as soon as they noticed that we were doing research in Dokkum: we really couldn't miss this vintage store. And they didn't lie. Willemijn and Samara search and find the nicest vintage items, buy them and resell everything. After some love where necessary. The girls thought it was sustainable and much needed in Frisian: they came across houses in the neighborhood full of items that were no longer worn - a shame! Please note: the store is currently only open on Friday, Saturday and shopping Sunday. So check with the girls to see if they will be there when you want to go.

Got hungry? Us too. No worries, Stadscafé Artisante Dokkum is the perfect place for a much-needed break. And the giant appetite. Sit down in the nice interior, grab the extensive and good menu from the city café and just hang out. Chic wallpaper on the walls and nice plants in the corner look great in the handsome corner building on the water.
We can be expensive, but we were hungry and went for a croquette sandwich... But bulging poke bowls or delicious home-made soups are also on the menu (we tasted the latter - a success!). In short: a no-bullshit spot that works out surprisingly well and serves something for everyone. We love.

The nicest gift shop in Dokkum is definitely Lifestyle 1622. You can purchase the most beautiful tableware there: cups, bowls, plates and bowls in greedy colors. But also the most beautiful bouquets of dried flowers (which you will also see at Knus coffee bar). For enthusiasts there is also a small selection of beautiful clothing and jewelry.

Last but not least because we are finished Kryt Dokkum! And certainly not just because they sell our own Little Escape book here, certainly not. Because Kryt also refurbishes the furniture until it becomes the nicest items in your home. Painting, making it beautiful and selling it, it can be that simple (as long as you do it with taste, as is done with Kryt). It was that we didn't have a trailer with us... In addition, Kryt also sells very nice home accessories. In short: go people! We bet you're sold too!
