new in Overveen: Café Restaurant House of Borski (the 20s near Haarlem)
Often sung about here on the site: the beautiful little village of Overveen with the most beautiful train station in the country. Exactly there, in a real country house, one of the coolest in North Holland opened: Café Restaurant House of Borski. Sounds good, is even better. For Borski it is the 20s that counts. Although that has been a rewarding source of inspiration for many for many years speakeasys style cocktail bars and hotels (so many that it even got a bit boring), we are now looking forward to one of those again! On to Overveen, on to Borski.
Anyone who walks into Borski's on the ground floor is immediately impressed, and that cannot be otherwise. But one floor higher, the oohs and aahs are all on. It's crazy, and yes, that always makes your catering experience just a little bit more fun. It is no surprise that the owners were quite inspired by the 20s: you can see that in everything. Wallpaper, accessories, the unmistakable boudoir feeling... Everything is right, from the lamps on the ceiling to the self-designed 'exit' signs. French and Italian classics on the menu. Ratatouille, Coq Au Vin (recommended) and a great favorite: the Saint-Marcellin. A delicious French dip cheese from the oven with wine and thyme. Two biggest North Holland favorites that don't look alike at first glance, but are both absolutely fantastic and were secretly opened by the same owners: Buitenplaats Plantage Vogelenzang and the new Plantage Rococo.
The first is a real country estate with a huge garden (quite a good place for children too), the second is a country house from yesteryear - the dream where you can also just sleep over. There are horses, there is peace and space, there are hammocks and it is fantastic.
