You want to put Japanese restaurant Kakunosuke in Utrecht on your food to-do list

Curious to explore Japanese cuisine further? Our favorite way is to learn more while eating, and thanks to tapas and soul food at Kakunosuke on Burgemeester Reigerstraat that is a real party. Visiting the little sister of restaurant Don Kounosuke you can imagine yourself in Japan for a moment, and the dark red walls and sultry light make it the perfect spot for a romantic date night. Some people (we) even say that you can find the best udon noodles here Utrecht eat.

The starters are a combination of well-known and lesser-known Japanese classics, such as various Gyoza (dumplings), Takoyaki (octopus balls) and Tsukemono (Japanese pickles). The main courses are all based around the thick Udon noodle, which is often served with hot or cold Dashi soup. This is a vegan soup made from shiitake mushrooms and Konbu seaweed – and yes, that combination is heavenly.

To reduce food waste, the kitchen at Kakunosuke works closely with Don Kounosuke. For example, our favorite appetizer – Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake with fish) – is made with pieces of fish that are not used at Don Kounosuke. Be careful not to order too much, at the end of the evening you will want to leave room for the delicious matcha ice cream.
