12 x vegan in Utrecht

12 x vegan in Utrecht

Vegan food is no longer just for a single gray sock. Don't be silly! Whether you always eat a plant-based diet, or adjust your diet a few days a week. Fortunately, more and more catering establishments understand this and one vegan hotspot after another is opening. Also in Utrecht. Our favorites in the middle of the country: 15 x vegan in Utrecht

VanPlanten Utrecht

VanPlanten Utrecht

Just opened in beautiful Utrecht and already a mega-fun: VanPlanten restaurant on Surinamestraat, just a little off the beaten track of Utrecht city and therefore all the more fun (because only for those in the know). Everything is vegan and the entire tent is decorated with recycled pearls. Logical too, because owner Hans Messie runs four thrift stores in 030.

Brewery Oproer

Brewery Oproer

Oproer brewery is located on a fairly remote site in Utrecht. A real beer sanctuary is located in the middle of storage boxes, gas stations and band practice rooms. The name 'brewery' says it all: they brew their own beer here. But in addition to brewing beer, they also serve vegan dishes and have an ever-changing menu. With a surprising children's dish every time! No boring chicken nuggets or fries with croquettes, but tasty healthy pasta or rice figures. The minimalist Brooklyn-esque interior is also nice, which fits perfectly with the casual atmosphere and dishes. The kids can run and play on the lawn in front of the brewery, while mom and dad can enjoy a well-deserved drink. Beer, good food and also child-friendly sounds like music to your ears! Brewery Oproer

Waku Waku Utrecht

Waku Waku Utrecht

Everything vegan, color everywhere, leave that to the people of Amsterdam's SNCKBR. They opened Waku Waku in Utrecht, a new version of SNCKBR that, to be honest, we might like a little more than the Amsterdam 'variant'. New year, new concept, same vegan love.

Vegan in Amsterdam? Sure: 15 plant-based food in Amsterdam

Le Jardin Utrecht

Le Jardin Utrecht

In a striking dark blue building on the Mariaplaats (can't miss it, and also a terrace in front of the door), Le Jardin took over from restaurant Delano. But no, the new Le Jardin is not for everyone; There are mainly vegetables on the French-oriented menu and you have to be in the mood for that (although the French vegetable menu alternates with “a nice piece of meat, fish or poultry”, the owner promises), but there are also completely vegan dishes. plenty.

The highlight (besides that special menu) of Le Jardin: the interior. You are literally sitting between the plants, it looks green, although everything else is mainly painted blue. Again: beautiful. The nicest (in our opinion) seating areas are those in the conservatory where a real courtyard has been created (reminiscent of Hotel Amour in Paris, the first; one recently opened second location), although the seating area with comfortable sofa in front of the fireplace on the edge of the more fancy restaurant area is also a wonderful place for a Sunday hangout. Juuls Hummus Utrecht

Juuls Hummus Utrecht

When you say vegan, you say, at least a little bit, hummus. And Israel, the home city of the delicious chickpea confection. So you should go exactly to Julia and Remco from Juuls Hummus in Utrecht. They love hummus, so much that they have their own business dedicated to it, encouraged by friends and family. Julia grew up largely in Israel and developed her preference for Levantine cuisine there. Regular visits to her parents (always focused on food) ensured that they (quite) mastered making the delicious superfood. After years of experimenting, they, and so are we, are very satisfied with the end result: Julia's Hummus: JUULS. The business is a nice, accessible deli where you can eat fresh hummus with various toppings. Fast, easy and above all healthy. To stay or to go. A healthy, quick bite that you can enjoy, as they say and we can confirm.

'T KOFFIE BEAN AND LETTUCE UTRECHT

'T KOFFIE BEAN AND LETTUCE UTRECHT

You don't have to live on black coffee as a Vegan: at 't Koffieboontje in Utrecht they also have different types of plant-based 'milk' to choose from: soy, almond and oat milk. And there are vegan cakes from Sharp Sharp, also from Utrecht, in the display case to feast on. Smart guy who sticks to that.

After coffee you can go straight to the SLA, which is well known to Amsterdam residents. Salads here, dude, there are two branches in the Stadsie.

Karibu Cafe Utrecht

Karibu Cafe Utrecht

The most colorful in Utrecht, or no: the greenest in Utrecht, has to be the Karibu Café. Not everything is vegan in the cafe that is full of plants (you can also go there for eggs benedict, for example), but the choice of vegan breakfast and lunch dishes is particularly large. Fine.

Caribu? Yup. That means welcome in Swahili. Ah. That is exactly what the business does: make you feel welcome. And that in pretty much the most African way possible in our own Dutch country. Colorful beanbags to flop on, wooden tables, rattan lamps and did we mention there are plants everywhere? Moreover, the cafe is large and the WiFi is good. All in all, a great spot to retreat to on a working day.

Not necessarily plant-based, but tasty: have lunch in Utrecht, our favorites

GYS Utrecht

GYS Utrecht

GYS was one of Utrecht's first sleek, handsome, hip, non-squatter-esque sustainable organic and vegetarian businesses. Gluten-free regional products, also in vegan dishes, on the menu and, which is great, still original and incredibly tasty. Sustainability everywhere: for example, the water from the sinks in the toilets goes straight to the toilet sink to prevent waste. Smart. Gys's quick deli is open every day until 22 p.m. and promises good things on all fronts! Read more: GYS

BROEI Utrecht

BROEI Utrecht

Oh. Hello Broei. Very nice uncomplicated community living room on the Utrechtse Oosterkade, near the mini coffee house Good Friday. At Broei simple (but tasty) sandwiches, good coffee, tasty salads, good people, low prices, a small but nice terrace and Man & Paard workplaces for Utrecht crea-bea freelancers at the back of the shop. Don't do anything about Broei anymore. Or bring Broei to Amsterdam, of course, that is allowed.

Jasmijn & Me + Saigon + Kimmade, Utrecht

Jasmijn & Me + Saigon + Kimmade, Utrecht

The Thai, Vietnamese and Cantonese restaurant Jasmine & ik has been a household name in Utrecht for some time. And these countries are now leading the way when it comes to the (natural) choice of plant-based dishes. If you want fish or meat, know that everything at Jasmine & I is organic and has been chosen and prepared with care. Finally: a 10 for atmosphere and service. Can be said again.

Even more Vietnamese, since that cuisine is known for its abundance of fresh vegetables and tofu? On to Saigon in Utrecht. On top of that, Saigon serves vegetarians a whole arsenal of vegetarian 'meat'.

Finally (at least in this Asian list), you can also put Kimmade on your list. You can also eat Vietnamese here. There are two locations, of which the one on Mariastraat is our favorite. Fresh here street food to go, although you can also take a seat at the few tables that are available. Sitting longer? Then you should go to Oudegracht at Werf 61.

Instock Utrecht

Instock Utrecht

Instock, you know, that restaurant with the best concept in the Netherlands, namely products that no longer reach the shelves of Albert Heijn, for breakage or that are near the date (while the items are all still very good). food!), collect it (daily) and process it into the most delicious dishes. Quite a sustainable concept, so to speak, for which kudos. It should therefore come as no surprise that Instock's menu has plenty to choose from for vegans. And: the garden at the Instock restaurant in Utrecht is TOP.

Punk Pizza Utrecht

Punk Pizza Utrecht

A story like that that immediately makes you happy, that is the story behind Punk Pizza. Owner Miel had the building, wanted a new (catering) tenant, but this didn't work out (because he didn't want a kebab or snack bar), so he did it himself, without experience. And after a few months of apprenticeship in Naples, he is now a real Italian pizza connoisseur and maker. Happy now? Told you so. Everything in a punk style and every Friday there is a black, yes really black, vegan pizza on the menu. It doesn't stop at Punk Pizza.
