kids to go: 12 x Mallorca as you probably never knew it! Tipped by the locals.

When someone asks us what we think is the ideal destination with kids, we always say Mallorca. Sometimes as the only answer, sometimes as part of a package of tips, but always the largest island of the Spanish Balearic Islands is there. Rode? It is an island and an island is a holiday, we believe. But Mallorca is also quite big! This means there is peace and space, you will find places that (almost) no one knows and you can easily turn it into a three-week road trip holiday! Which island has that?

There are cafes and restaurants that really won't break the bank, there is a capital, Palma de Mallorca, that is so big that you can really get everything you are looking for and we have never met anyone who has not fallen in love with Mallorca. . Perfect with the kids, yes, but anyone who is without small items should not miss the list below.

The Duke in Palma de Mallorca

The Duke in Palma de Mallorca

It is almost impossible not to dive into the city of Palma when you are in Mallorca. And why not: it is a holiday town from the books: the size of a large village and the entertainment of a big city. One of the nicest restaurants in Palma is The Duke. Go there for dinner and don't miss the ceviche, it's superb. But actually everything is tasty. They are kind to the children, a child seat is fixed in no time, just like an adapted meal. Make sure you make a reservation!

Santa Catalina (Palma de Mallorca)

Santa Catalina (Palma de Mallorca)

Anyone who goes out with kiddos, or not of course, just wants to have a neighborhood where they can hang out. They run around a bit, we hang out a bit (and a snack and a drink is never far away). For that you really have to go to the neighborhood in Palma Santa Catalina are: the former fishing district is now a hip enclave around a centuries-old market where regional products are sold and the market is lined with brightly painted houses. The mansions are home to numerous design and vintage shops, cocktail bars are next to local pubs and you will find several international restaurants: something for everyone.

Favorite? Eating sushi from scratch! Directly from the Santa Catalina market (you'll see for yourself). Please note: only for lunch until 15.00 p.m. Really delicious sushi and dim sum! Or go Thai food at Isaan, also in Santa Catalina. Delicious and affordable.

The beach

The beach

Do we have favorite beaches and other places? But yes! be sure to read this article: beach hopping, trendy shops and uncomplicated addresses for everyone.

The ultimate Mallorca List

(the photo with the can NaturNes Bio chips was made in Ibiza – anyone who pays attention! The message is that the snacks are perfect beach material: you close the can without sand and when they are empty they are also perfect for carrying all kinds of things with you ;-))

shopping!

shopping!

While we used to go from one (food) bar to another, we sometimes want something different during a day away from the beach. No hassle of course, so we dive into the nicest interior design stores. If we stay in Santa Catalina in Palma de Mallorca for a while, you can actually go to an interior design shop Midnight Blue don't skip it. A beautiful place where you probably won't take anything home with you, but where you will be amazed (and get inspiration for your home!).
Where you might want to stock up on a rug or two, three, or other gadget is at Grandmother, a little further in Palma.

On Sunday you go to Consell where there is a crazy one that day vintage market is! That's fun anyway, but it becomes even more fun if you go for lunch afterwards Santa Maria at Sasini, a very Spanish place with delicious cakes. Or relax in the garden Living Dreams.

Osa Major

Osa Major

Osa Major is the stone child of Dutch Brenda and Roland, who discovered by chance that the interior of Mallorca still has quite a few places that have not yet been overrun with tourists. They fell in love and after years of patience, Osa Major was finally born. What started with a piece of empty land on a mountain is now a picture of a house. We think that the term chic bohemian describes it well. Thanks to the natural materials, concrete floor, traditional Spanish and Moroccan details and gray tones of the furnishings, everything seems to have an Instagram filter. The house is spacious and there is plenty of room to run around (for the kids, but you can too). Lunch or dinner can also be cooked upon request (and if you want that, just check the Instagram page).

It is not necessarily suitable for very small explorers because there is no fence around the infinity pool, but we leave that up to you. Furthermore, it is a very child-friendly place where you will definitely want to come back. Oh yes, the view is even more beautiful from that pool.

Yoga fans have come to the right place, Brenda had a yoga studio in Amsterdam for years and therefore knows the ins and outs. She lovingly organizes a session or several sessions, but also massages, bicycle tours or other trips in the beautiful surroundings. You can rent individual rooms (there are five) or the entire house. Just take a look. And can be booked via Bart Boekt, to make it easy for you.

That Sunday is the best in Mallorca because after the vintage market you can actually go straight to the Sunday Afternoon at the Mhares Sea Club where a DJ is 'spinning' (how hip we are) but where you don't have that snobby and bling-bling that we just really don't like. Yes, it is a bit of that, but done well, so to speak. It is a holiday after all!
Be sure to enjoy only good, real Spanish food El Bungalow. This restaurant is located right on the sea (Ciudad Jardin) in a suburb of Palma with a nice beach. Eating with locals, family style!

Eating with your feet in the sand

Eating with your feet in the sand

You eat with your feet in the sand s'Arenal in Porto Colom. Secretly a favorite spot, especially with the kiddo, as here you are also on a relatively large (especially for Dutch) beach. And the blue and white place is definitely a holiday from the books, not to mention the delicious food.
More restaurants on the beach you asked? We have! Patiki in Port de Soller is also a winner. This restaurant is run by some very nice Argentinian people who will turn your evening or afternoon into a (delicious) party.
Lunch at Cap Rocat sea club – delicious food in style, beautiful view of the bay

Something else...

Something else...

If you can't go to Osa Major, or are looking for something else (remember that road trip), then Hotel Sea Club also a really good tip: the affordable hotel has rooms on the beach and is just such a nice one oldskool hotel and a bit of a colonial atmosphere. The two second floor rooms with sea view are the best! But you don't get that from us. Dogs welcome, a paradise for children and just a very nice and fresh spot. This you must have.
Okay, the ending: Museu Sabassa Blanca is a beautiful museum (msbb.org) near a nice restaurant (s'Illiot) where you can enjoy the sunset overlooking Cap Formentor…
