Barts Best of: Comporta

We love discovering the world, and that is exactly what we do, but we also have 'a chef's secret'. A place we keep coming back to, simply because it is so lovely there. Comporta, one of the most beautiful parts of Portugal and a stone's throw from Lisbon. Barts Best of Comporta.

Because you probably just want to know the finest spots to tick off per category. Please note, however, that a number of these establishments are only open during the summer season, so always check the opening hours before you go.

JNcQUOI Beach Club Restaurant, Praia do Pego – a colorful top favorite Sublime Gorgeous Comporta Beach Club, Praia do Carvalhal – fancy Ibiza-esque, but nice
Restaurant SAL, Praia do Carvalhal – right next to Sublime, a bit more 'family style' and therefore quite a bit cozier
Atlantic Element, Praia do Pego – for dinner only, belongs to Quinta da Comporta (read: fancy)

Restaurant Horta (photo 1) and/or Inari in Quinta Da Comporta – make a reservation and a nice way to see the beautiful hotel even if you aren't staying here, which we can understand as it is quite pricey.

Xtian restaurant at the Vermelho Hotel (Melides)

Xtian restaurant at the Vermelho Hotel (Melides)

One for the fashionistas: Xtian. This restaurant is located in the beautiful Vermelho, a five-star boutique hotel in Melides, a sleepy A small village on the Alentejo coast, just below Comporta. Okay, and what about the fashion? Here it comes: the owner is none other than shoe king Christian Louboutin. “Xtian” is simply short for “Christian”. Aha. The food is surprisingly modest, honest, and tasty. Seasonal products from the Alentejo take center stage, served on tableware by local artisans. Marinated sardines with apple and orange, tomato salad, pumpkin risotto, and sea bass accompanied by a bottle of Alvarinho. A relaxed bistro by day; a romantic scene by evening. And then the interior: hand-painted tiles everywhere, frescoes, and antique furniture from Mr. Louboutin’s own collection. The red floor tiles of the bar come from the famous Azulejos de Azeitão. Don’t skip that bar! Want to sit outside? Go for it. The gardens were designed by Louis Benech (just google it), and you dine among sculptures and jasmine trees.

And a number of other businesses and hotels highlighted:

Bar restaurant Jacare da Comporta

Bar restaurant Jacare da Comporta

Both hotels, Sublime Comporta and Quinta da Comporta, are perfect for this drinks and dinner, but there is more to Comporta. Such as bar restaurant Jacare, Jacare da Comporta in full.

Opened about three years ago stylist Fernando Droghetti Jacaré do Brasil, a hipper-depip restaurant Trancoso, Bahia in Brazil. A beach bar that is immediately THE hangout was from the local jetset. In Comporta Droghetti repeated his success song again: Jacaré da Comporta is the place to be on Dryer Street in Comporta. Brazilian influences everywhere, supplemented with Portuguese, of course. The menu includes risottos, wood-fired pizzas and fresh pasta. The restaurant has a summer terrace and a bar.

At one of these three restaurants if possible:

Jncquoi Asia: If only because of the looks of the place, the food is good too. Read more  (the photo below is included Jncquoi Asia taken)

Memórias 57: Fancy something different? In Italian to be precise (always a good idea)? Then set course for Memoria. Not expensive, but good. (the photo of the terrace here was taken at Memórias 57)

Marisqueira Azul: If you go to Portugal, you will probably prepare yourself for a holiday full of fish and other delicacies from the sea. Logically, that is what the country is – rightly – known for. So when locals applaud your cause because of the dish of the country, then it must be very good. That's the story at Marisqueira Azul.

Although it seems somewhat remote (read: oasis of peace), this beautiful place is only three kilometers away from Comporta village and Comporta beach. The accommodation consists of two cabins. One of the cabins has a cozy bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The shower offers the option to shower both indoors and outdoors (score!). In the second cabin you will find the living area with kitchen. The view is from both cabins beautiful. You look out over the water, nature and the landscape around you. Super romantic!

Hotel Quinta da Comporta, Portugal

Hotel Quinta da Comporta, Portugal

First things first: Hotel Quinta da Comporta. Because Marta sold her handmade dresses here right on the beach. Quinta da Comporta had been her favorite hotel for years, so when she had the opportunity to sell Martine Love here, she grabbed it with both hands. And it is not surprising that Quinta da Comporta is her favorite hotel, because it seems as if time has stood still here. You feel like you are in an oasis of peace here. And that's nice sometimes, immense? Exactly. Hotel Quinta da Comporta

Lisbon: Hotel Bairro Alto & Hotel Memo Princepe Real

Lisbon: Hotel Bairro Alto & Hotel Memo Princepe Real

Another favorite of Marta's Hotel Bairro Alto. The hotel is somewhat classically decorated. In fact, a bit old-fashioned even, but still very much so rock and roll also. An overnight stay in this hotel is not necessarily super cheap, but affordable. Oh and the hotel has one of the best roof terraces in Lisbon. The owners recently made the hotel a lot bigger and gave the hotel a complete overhaul make over. The location in the heart of the city and the fantastic roof terrace remained.
Hotel Memo Princepe Real is another favorite of Marta: this blue-and-white hotel also has one of the best roof terraces in the city with a truly awesome view. Perfect for After drinks and shopping in the vicinity of the hotel.
