On one side Ghent's famous St. Nicholas Church, on the other side the Graslei: the brand new hotel 1898 The Post in the former Ghent post building has a prime location in the historic center of the city. Top location for a top hotel, because man, it is beautiful here. The hotel, part of the Zannier Group, has 38 rooms spread over two floors, both floors beautifully renovated with a sense of history. Dark green on the walls, octagonal marble bathroom tiles, retro taps and everything in a magnificent dark, almost earthy finish. The smallest room is the stamp room, and there is nothing wrong with that. Then come the 'letters' and the suites, but the loft and the tower room (with 360 degree views) are – dude – the craziest of the bunch. Most rooms have extra high ceilings and a mezzanine. The kitchen, the restaurant, and the Cobbler, a sitting room with fireplace and cocktail bar, as well as the communal areas, all have that feeling of a bygone era with old-fashioned paintings and books as props everywhere.
