Would you like to bring Morocco into your home? Good idea, and the folks at The Weavery know how

Remember when we talked about a unique and inspiring place to stay in Amsterdam? The Weavery Amsterdam? Read it again and you'll understand what we mean. So a very good idea anyway, a night or two at The Weavery, but things become even a little better when you know that most of what you see - at least the colorful Moroccan seasonings in the rooms - is too be for sale. Just on the corner of the B&B. The small shop is a great address for anyone who is either looking for the well-known (but still beautiful) Beni Ouarain rugs (those white-with-black stripes) or - our favorite - original hand-knotted colorful rugs that, among other things, acting crazy in the nursery.

And there is news in town! Family expansion at The Weavery: a second shop was recently opened in De Pijp, where you can shop at 'do it yourself' beats and your own garment custom designed.

De Happy Rugs the people at The Weavery call this one, and there was even a separate Kids Collection on the site. Now that's what we call thinking along. Colorful rugs in different sizes, but the main thing you need to know is that everything, absolutely everything, is not only purchased in Morocco, but that Driss, of Moroccan origin, and Bettina, a German, work one on one with the gentlemen and ladies weavers in El Ksiba, a small village at the foot of the Atlas Mountains where Driss was born. They instruct the weavers there, pay them a fair price for their work and, and that's the best part of the story, they inspire the Moroccan craftsmen to step out of their comfort zone and weave original rugs that they would otherwise never make. This results in a truly surprising collection in different price categories and very proud weavers. You won't speak to them yourself, but Driss and Betina will certainly be happy to send you a thank you letter when they are back in Morocco. The Weavery

And then suddenly, as suddenly as can be, we walked into the window of The Weavery shop number two. On opening day, that can hardly be a coincidence. A telepathic connection, perhaps. Anyways, hurray: family expansion for The Weavery! And yes, we are also celebrating this party. On the corner of Eerste van Der Helstraat Slash Quellijnstraat is the second shop, including the Moroccan dreams of rugs that we are used to from them.

And oh, how we adore it. Because extra bonus points for the concept of the shops. Here you can completely customize your own rug. Choose the perfect color palette from among a thousand and one colors and spend hours deciding between wool, cotton or a (hypo-allergenic) acrylic variant. The choices are endless.
