Max & Jan Marrakech
Loyal Barts Boekje readers (again: hi!) and people who have done a little research/asked around, know that there are a few restaurants that you simply cannot miss in Marrakech: La Famille, Le Jardin, Nomad... Anyway, you can read them all here: 15 x food and drinks in Marrakech, the must-go's. But what you have probably never heard of is the new thing Max & Jan Marrakech, only just opened and already the hottest news from Marrakech. We were there and thought something of it.
The youngest kid on the Marrakech block is called Max & Jan. Sounds anything but Moroccan and that's true: the place is the brainchild of a Belgian couple and started as a concept store where mainly beautiful things from Marrakech were combined with many more beautiful things from St. Tropez, Tangier, Goa and Ibiza. Nice and international, nice and colorful and above all almost annoyingly greedy. colored hippie-style sunglasses, colorful pillows and bags in just the right way, sweaters with really cool lyrics (Rock The Casbah – what a nice souvenir), those knitted cardigans to wear all day, every day, flowy dresses and more of that. You always found the shop almost next to the well-known (and not to be missed) Terrasse des Epices.
You still do that, but recently there is more: Café Max & Jan! The perfect shop and in café form. Hold me. It's on the menu soul food and just like the store, the kitchen is a cheerful international mix without losing sight of Max & Jan's home country. Tasty? Yes. At number 1 during your Morocco trip? Yes.
