Nomad, Marrakech
Rooftop restaurant Nomad in the heart of the medina of Marrakech is one of the few Marrakech darlings that does not belong to a hotel. Because gosh, it's so nice and delicious and sunny and relaxed and too photogenic to spend just two snaps on it. You have to get angry because you just walk past Nomad (a few times) and you don't want to ask for directions in the medina - before you know it you're walking ten laps behind a pushy Moroccan who doesn't know it either, but who you have to pay for his services.
Tip: look when you're near it Place Rahba Kedima are, where the (most) spices are, up; the restaurant has small white and black signs that show you the way. Once there you walk through the restaurant via a narrow staircase - also nice, but inside and... it only gets better – further upstairs to an almost Scandinavian cafe-restaurant: Scandinavian in the mix with Morocco and a bit of St Tropez. Find a spot around the bar where there are most of the shadow tables, or go one floor higher, or another. The menu features light, fairly Western dishes, but all with a Moroccan base: mezzo, yoghurt dips, Moroccan gazpacho, harira (Moroccan soup) and (lentil) salads, fish, vegetarian Briouat (a spicy vegetable roll), lamb or chicken tagine, calamari, couscous but also a burger, for the enthusiast.
