Nosara: No Shoes No Shirt at Costa Rica baby!
Do you recognize that feeling? That sometimes you have arrived at such a nice place that you think... STOP TIME! NEVER GO HOME AGAIN! Yes, yes, we want to stay here. Well? So we do. When Bartje was in Costa Rica last year, she had exactly that feeling Nosara, a district and a true jewel in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica.
Difficult roads leads to beautiful destinations, goes a proverb and for Nosara this saying is completely true. After 2 hours of bumping and bouncing down a road (a four wheel drive is recommended throughout Costa Rica) you arrive at this town. Everything revolves around this retreats, slow down, yoga, organic food and surfing! It gives you a bit of a Bali feeling, but that feeling from 15 years ago.
You can choose from cozy B&B retreats or beautiful small-scale eco-lodges. La Garta Lodge is such a beautiful boutique resort with, in our opinion, the most beautiful infinitypool from all over Costa Rica. You will have breakfast here with a view over a green oasis located right next to the ocean.
This surfing and yoga paradise has three different beaches that are connected by winding gravel roads. Guiones Beach, Playa Pelada en Playa Nosara. The first two merge into each other and, in addition to surfing, are also ideal for long walks on the beach.
Moon, Playa Pelada is definitely the favorite lounge spot. Whether you come here for brunch, lunch or to watch the sunset with a drink, you can sit here and relax vibe and lovely people around you.
Scripts is the place where you can find nice restaurants in the evening, 10 feet is such a cozy place. The tuna salad is highly recommended. Guiones Brew has the tastiest pizzas and Burgers&Beers Well, we think the name says it all.
As it gets later in the evening, reggae music emerges from various speakers. With a local beer, beachy hair and a bronze glow on your face, you're rocking in your slippers. Tuktuks drive around pleasantly and act as taxis that take you home.
Playa Ostional should not be missing from this story because here you will find the Arrival place. And although the name may remind you of a national festival, nothing is more true. Every year, hundreds of thousands of giant turtles come ashore here in peace and quiet to lay their eggs. Nowhere else can you see this natural spectacle like this than here. Touristy? Yes, but in the right way so that the sea turtles are not disturbed. The local population guards the beach 24 hours a day and tourists can go onto the beach in small groups to see this phenomenon with their own eyes. A guide will tell you more about this process and will lead you to the turtles at the right time with a red flashlight (the turtles cannot see red light) so that you can take a closer look. Impressive and special are in order here.
In short, this surfing town surrounded by jungle, wildlife Kilometers of beach with a carefree atmosphere almost seem too good to be true, but it isn't! What you see is what you get. We hope that Nosara will continue to have all its charms in the coming years. Fortunately, the Costa Rican government has a lot of influence on tourism, they keep growth under control and the preservation of nature and culture is always top priority. Kudos.
