Petit brasserie Monsieur Rouge

Fertile land along the Spaarne in Haarlem. We recently visited a coffee and cocktail bar Bar Waterline and all day brunch tent TEDS welcome, since the end of September there has been a nicer house at number 44: Monsieur Rouge. A wonderful bistro-like place to start the weekend or start the day well.

Every day at 8:30 am, Monsieur Rouge opens its doors to lovers of cappuccino (Bocca beans) with a croissant. Add a newspaper, a spot by the window or on the terrace. A very relaxed start, non? This all flows effortlessly into lunch and later into drinks. The petit brasserie does not have an extensive dinner menu, but it does have nice wines and good snacks. Croques, charcuterie and a perfect cheese board. That work.

In the open kitchen, owner Marcel lovingly puts together a plat du jour. At the time of writing it is fresh onion soup and the runner coq au vin. As it should be.

The looks are also what you expect from a French bistro: tiled floor, round tables, wicker patio chairs and lots of red, black and white. The most photogenic part of the furnishings is undoubtedly the French bulldog Sjef. The lovely host himself has his own Insta account. Everything is equally nice about Monsieur Rouge.
