When an old faded place is transformed into one hip spot, then you can assume that it is a place with that incomprehensible and oh so special atmosphere. So it is Restaurant Badhuis in Utrecht that is located in, yes, a former bathhouse.
Restaurant Badhuis it is! The name speaks for itself. The bathhouse was built in 1927 in the style of the Amsterdam School. Inside the restaurant, that style has been retained and the interior has been elegantly adapted to the rest of the former bathhouse. The old waiting rooms have now become private spaces and the original gold letters hang again at the entrance. An atmosphere of modern and old mixed together. Nice.
As said: the interior of Restaurant Badhuis is inspired by the style of the Amsterdam School. The style where the buildings are mainly built of brick with ladder windows and with decorations in the facades and in brick and here and there a turret. You enter and go back in time. For example, the bar (which also has a retro look) has a black and white tiled floor and the restaurant has art deco lamps. Also the old-fashionedbench' in salmon pink and gray tones they have brought back from that time in the perfect way together with the chairs. Everything is a piece of cake!
“In the past, the lifeguard would bang on the doors after fifteen minutes: 'Dry off, get dressed, hurry up! You're not going to get any cleaner.', says Restaurant Badhuis. Nowadays you no longer need a towel and you can stay much longer than fifteen minutes. It is nice to relax on the lovely terrace in the summer.
