Row, row, row me a River Kitchen: new pearl in the Rivierenbuurt

When you say food, you say Barts Boekje, when you say Barts Boekje, you say food, let's be honest - we love it. Despite the hundred million fantastic catering establishments in Amsterdam, you rarely come across one where 1. the actual owner is in the kitchen and 2. who really understands the food. With passion. Got it? Well we found one exactly like this: River Kitchen So it gets it, it says so itself, and it is new fresh off the press. Personal is the right word to describe River Kitchen. Everything is as close to the catering heart as can be.

Location? The ever upcoming Rivierenbuurt. Hence the name of course. It's all great fun anyway, but it's right on the borderline fancy Rivierenbuurt a la Oud Zuid and raw edge Rivierenbuurt. Do you want originale but unashamedly people-watching from the cozy terrace but at the same time being polite, sit here. Certainly not unimportant: despite the fact that you are located quite centrally among the Amsterdam homes, you almost always catch the sun late and late.

What do you usually eat? Since they love food and are new, the menu is wonderfully variable - we secretly went twice. The bread was homemade and freshly baked that day (points), the oysters were large and salty (sorry there was also wine and we don't remember exactly where they came from), the scallops were perfectly prepared (it's an art that not every kitchen possesses). is), fresh tuna with such a delicious edge, we ate a bisque-like soup and the main course was also more than enough - both vegetarian and meat. Dessert really didn't fit anymore. We will come back again.

But tip of the day: just go and ask for it whatever the chef has in mind. Because this good man will always be working on the next great dish and who knows, you might get to taste it right away. Please note: taste and not everything has to be perfect because it is new. And otherwise the menu is just plain gemütlicher and easy to choose party. Be careful: you can find a starter here for less than 10 euros and the main course also sells for 2 euros. And that in Amsterdam. Ridiculous is not necessarily the word we like to use, but it is here.

We cannot hide this one either: Bart likes to have a drink. All within limits, but with verve. That's how we say it. Let both the wine list and the wine knowledge of the staff (and here too we think the chef has something to do with this) exactly we point are. If you like lighter wine, go for the Riesling, if you want something heavier, go for the Chardonnay, even if you normally don't like Chardonnay, this is a completely different caliber. Or get advice because they can do that more than well here. They are not afraid of cocktails either, and neither are we, the Espresso Martini here really comes with the glass half full. Completely full, but according to the saying, positively half full because it was really that tasty.

River Kitchen can be found on the corner of Waalstraat x Uiterwaardenstraat. Please note that the lovely people run this themselves and are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Let yourself be pampered here on any other day of the week. We haven't left here in 3 hours.
