Tips for the adventurous ski areas in Savoie Mont Blanc: Les Sasies and Arêches-Beaufort
Savoie, Savoie? The Savoy Mont Blanc! We all already knew that France has many beautiful ski areas and this place in the western part of the French Alps is no exception. Wide slopes, good food, nice weather and the winter sports feeling is on. We previously wrote about winter sports areas such as meribel, Oz-en-Oisans en La Plagne. But Seizures en Areches-Beaufort were still missing and we therefore add them with love.
Seizures, one of the pearls that Savoie Mont Blanc has to offer. A cozy village, with 192 km of slopes, child-friendliness is of paramount importance and many other (non-ski) activities are in the right place. This way you can ski from Les Saisies - without having to take the ski bus (we like) - to the surrounding areas. So make meters.
And we know better than anyone that skiing can make you a bit tired and certainly hungry, and Les Saisies has plenty to offer for that too, with restaurants in both the village and on the slopes. One of the favorites for lunch is Les Chalet de Marmottes and for dinner Les Arcades, deliciously French, simple, but oh so tasty. Of course you also have to sleep and that is what we do at the Hotel LeCalgary. Don't expect mega luxury, but do expect a good bed, delicious breakfast and close to the ski lift.
It has become clear that you are in the right place with skiing here. But did you know that Les Saisies also has many (non-ski) activities to offer? Les Saisies is popular among cross-country skiers and you can even find a real one biathlon take. And then I hear you thinking: a biathlon? This is only for the real ones die hards who participate in the Olympic games? Certainly not! The biathlon is accessible to everyone. With a combination of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, professional instructors will take you on this unique experience. Mega!
But if the biathlon is just a bit too much, you can also go snowshoeing aka snow shoes. You simply click the snowshoe onto your own shoe and before you know it you are at the top. And do you want to completely relax? Then immediately book a yoga session. Because that snow shoes all the way hot en Happening is in the winter sports areas, we already knew a little, but combined with yoga makes this experience even more unique. A tip from us: book a session at Hélèn Durand Yoga and completely relax.
From the well-known and busier Les Saisies to the slightly smaller and quieter one Areches-Beaufort. If you prefer something quieter, but still want to remain a bit adventurous, then this place is a paradise to visit in winter for real adventurers. You can do everything there, and by everything we really mean everything. From ski touring, to a visit to the local cheese farmers, eating French Beaufort cheese (because yes, it comes from here), good food to sleeping in an igloo. Yes, one thing is certain: you will get through the days here too.
You have to love ski touring. But we know one thing for sure: everyone wants it in this beautiful environment. A combination of climbing, skiing and enjoying a special environment. You won't get one like that anytime soon. After a day of ski touring, in our opinion you are already in adventurer 'mode' and they know what to do with that in Arêches-Beaufort. Pay attention! You can sleep in a real igloo. And no, before you think a luxury igloo with shower, toilet and all the trimmings, this is not it. The igloos belong to restaurant l'Alpage on the slopes, where you can have a nice dinner with a real French person before entering the igloo. tartiflette, after which you brave the cold with a flashlight and pillow to sleep in one of the igloos. In the morning you will wake up with a bit of luck with a beautiful sunrise and breakfast will be ready. Comfort and luxury? No. Experience? Yes! So you have to love it, but it is an experience.
If sleeping in an igloo isn't quite your thing (we understand), you can also simply book one of the hotels or apartments in Arêches-Beaufort. And would you rather skip ski touring? Then of course there are plenty of other things to do. To start with, of course, food, because that's what we love so much. This is how you can access it hotel and restaurant La Table de Joséphine eat a delicious cheese fondue.
Let's go into this for a moment cheesy mood to stay, there is of course no better place for Beaufort cheese than in Areches-Beaufort yourself. So you can visit it Beaufortain Cheese Factory, where you can see exactly how the cheeses are made. It is also nice to visit one of the local ones farmers.
