Cool Cape Town: Shiraz Estate Guesthouse, Riebeek
So of course we went to Riebeek, more than an hour's drive from Cape Town, just above Paarl (stopover at Babylonstoren & co!) to experience the - spoiler alert: too delicious Shiraz Estate Guesthouse to check.
The former tobacco and wine farm, Riebeek Kasteel, is centuries old (1881), but Kristine and Thorbjorn, from Oslo, Norway, moved in in 2016 and created a contemporary, beautiful guesthouse - a place to unwind, as they say themselves. Once you have moved into Shiraz Estate Guesthouse, you will experience peace and quiet. Room. Silence. A whistling bird. No TV, no range, nothing. Yes, a glass of red. Just call that nothing.
The family of Kristine and Thorbjorn (you can say Thor) bought the farm in 2004. They used the following years to renovate and style the three buildings that form the farm entirely according to their own wishes. The beams of the original balcony were restored, the original windows and doors were retained, the old barn was restored into guest accommodation and the field where cattle used to graze was created with eleven plots for two and three bedroom houses.

The whole became clean and minimalist without being cold thanks to the South African details. Beautiful. A lot of changes, but the surrounding vineyards remained, and the quality wines are still made in the nearby cellars. Just like before. Perfect for nothing and perfect for the perfect breakfast by the pool. According to Kristine and Thor: you came as guest, you left as friends. And that's how it is.
