Beaches around/near Lisbon: this is the place to be
Anyone who thinks that you have completed Lisbon in a few days is terribly wrong. In addition to strolling around the city for hours, you should actually book a few extra days. The city may not have a beach, but you will find plenty within a short distance. Those trendy undiscovered beaches. But of course the question remains where to go, so we recommend the best ones in this list beaches around/near Lisbon.

- Beach Club Posto da Onda: about a twenty-minute drive from Lisbon you will find Caparica beach, where the beach club Posto da Onda is nestled on the beach. A place for young and old to relax with the sound of the sea and the music that is played daily. On the beach you will find a surfing school, beach bar, lounge and restaurant. Don't forget to order fresh fish from the latter. (Photo left).
- Beach Club Praia da Princesa: an interior that we in the Netherlands can only dream of, that is what you will encounter at Beach Club Praia da Princesa. And fresh fish, real fresh fish. Please note: it can get busy and it may be a bit pricey by Portuguese standards. This city is also a twenty-minute drive from Lisbon center. (Photo right).
- Beaches of Arrabida: one of the most beautiful in Portugal, that's what we call the beaches of Arrábida. You can find them south of Lisbon near the city of Setúbal in the protected Arrábida Natural Park. Crystal clear water and the park surrounding it make you forget that you were just standing in the hustle and bustle of Lisbon (photo).
- Azenhas do Mar: perhaps more of a place to walk than to sit on the beach for hours, but hey, that's fun too. Azenhas do Mar is a small village close to Sintra and has beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. There is a small beach, which you reach by stairs cut from the rocks. Worth a visit is the fish restaurant “Azenhas do Mar” with a view like a postcard.
- Praia da Macas: literally means 'beach of apples', ah yes. This is because the Colares River Ribeira de Colares used to flow here. When fruit fell from the ships, the population took it. Now the beach is mainly clear and child-friendly.
- Ursa Beach: it's a while hiking, but then you also have something. The road to Praia da Ursa is tough, but definitely worth it. You will find this almost deserted beach near Lisbon. Swimming may not be wise because of the rocks, but there may not be a better place around Lisbon for a picnic.
