This is how you do terrace shopping in Groningen
Can we talk about it some more? Groningen to have? Well, right? Because in this northern student city, terrace shopping is quite good when the sun shines even a little bit. And not just in the city! No, it's also brilliant to spend time in the provincial greenery with a beer, a ball and your ass on a patio chair. This is how you do terrace shopping in Groningen.
Three Sisters
Perhaps the most famous terrace in the middle of the city: the terrace of the Three Sisters. Located on the Grote Markt, the perfect spot if you like commotion and people watching.
Workman
A door (chair?) further you will find Werkman. Werkman is a fairly new gem on the Grote Markt (early 2022 said): we were already very enthusiastic about the interior, their terrace is also highly recommended! Read more about Werkman Groningen
The Dogs Bullocks
Diagonally opposite Mr. Mofongo you will find The Dogs Bullocks. At first glance you would not expect them to have a terrace... Nothing could be further from the truth! Ha. They have a cozy terrace behind the building. With an old VW van that has been transformed into a bar.
Another nice terrace at De Grote Markt! You can relax here all summer long: in the sun, but also in the shade under the parasol. This mega large terrace is part of Café Willem Albert, that again The Market Hotel belongs. This fine hotel is stately and contemporary with classic stepped gables.
Willem Albert aka the living room of Groningen: you can go here all day long for coffee, luxurious high tea, lunch, drinks and dinner. They are open until midnight, so cocktails until 00:00. Cheers!
At Café Willem Albert they serve old Dutch dishes with a twist. Think of the classics: apple pie, a good bouncer, a croquette sandwich (from our own bakery: Bakery Westers) and a Gruninger meatball. Always good! There is also non-Dutch food available, if that's not your thing!
clockworker
We previously wrote about the pleasant atmosphere of De Uurwerker. Their terrace is just as nice!

Florentin
Ha, another one of our favorites. Florentin also has a lovely terrace, where you can enjoy their fantastic food!
Museum Café Het Pomphuis
Het Pomphuis is a wonderful city café, with an even nicer terrace on the water. The perfect place to celebrate sunny days!
Salmagundi
You will find Salmagundi on the Oosterhamrikkade; a concept store and lunch spot in one. They have a lovely terrace on the water. Or actually, on the water. You don't want to miss this one.
Sunday.
Perhaps this terrace has the most beautiful spot in Groningen, namely in the middle of the Noorderplantsoen. Only a 5-minute walk from the city, yet there is a nice peace and quiet. A place where every day is a little bit like Sunday.
DOWRY.
The DOT terrace is certainly one of the nicest terraces in Groningen; creative and artistic. Painted (open) containers, picnic benches and in the summer a lovely adjacent city beach!
Wadapartya.
We previously recommended Wadapartja as a great spot. The branch in the Westerhaven also has a nice terrace, complete with hammocks and play facilities for kids (happy kid, happy parents, right?!).
Bramble
You will find Bramble on the edge of the Noorderplantsoen. That's good news, because you're in the right place at Bramble. Special beer, an extensive wine and cocktail list, an excellent selection of gin and tonics and yes, a nice terrace! Just put us here.
mr. mofongo
Also about Mr. We have written about Mofongo before and it is and remains simply one of our favorite addresses in Groningen. Their terrace at the back of their business is also in excellent condition.
Cape Horn Beach Club
Who cares about Bloemendaal? In Groningen we have Beach Club Kaap Hoorn. Located on the Hoornse Meer, this is the ultimate lounge spot. You can go there for a good bite and DJs regularly play there during the weekend.
Garnwerd by the Sea
Garnwerd aan Zee is located ten kilometers from the city of Groningen. Admittedly, it is not actually on the sea. At the Reitdiep. But hey, that doesn't detract from the beautiful terrace on the water and the small sandy beach with the jetty. Hello summer feeling!
Pavilion Flonk
Paviljoen Flonk is located in Finsterwolde, on the Oldambtmeer, about 30 kilometers from the city of Groningen. A lovely terrace on the water, where you can also moor your boat. For the ultimate holiday feeling, the finest drinks and the tastiest snacks.
Harbor Club
The terrace of the Harbor Club is located on the Havenkade of Winschoten.
A nice meeting place, where you can have a drink, dine, but also listen to live jazz music, because YesWhen the weather is nice, the jazz band plays outside on the terrace!
