Tips for the (mini) vegetable garden
Whether you have a large garden or not, it is always a good idea to create mini vegetable gardens that you can grow on a small balcony or even in your home. Fun for the kids too! But how on earth do you go about this? Voila, these are the tips for the (mini) vegetable garden.
Herbs are especially grateful: 9 times out of 10 they look beautiful, they smell wonderful and you can immediately start using them in the kitchen. Win-win-win. Moreover, you can easily sow them in pots. Do you have an outside? Garden or balcony? Please note: it is early April, so it is better to place your pots indoors at night because the nights are still cold. Keep you there soon to be herbs not.
Also consider these herbs: great for making tea! Mint, lemon verbena, fennel, bergamot and marjoram. The latter will help you sleep well.
En how about sow chard? It looks colorful and you can eat everything from it, both the stem and the leaves. And you can keep eating it! It just keeps growing. You can eat Swiss chard beer raw or cooked, by the way.”
Zucchini and tomatoes are smart to sow (especially in April). You can also sow them in a pot, but be careful, these also need to be put indoors at night. More in for the quick win? Most (online) sales points also sell small tomato and zucchini plants. They can go straight into the pot.
If you are going to sow yourself, make sure you put plastic over the pot. Just that kitchen foil. Then things don't dry out: you essentially create a mini greenhouse.
Lucky bastards with a larger vegetable garden? Sow strawberry plants! They do need a bit more space. Also do in the large vegetable garden: sow artichoke. It will look incredibly beautiful with those purple large flowers. Please note: large! So a little space is desirable. Also wonderful to dry, but that's another story.
If you have a damp garden, you can do that too watercress sow. Sow the seeds in the wet soil and cover with a layer of (dry) soil of about 0,5 cm. After a few weeks you can already harvest! Also very fun to do with children because of the quick results. Simply cut it off and sprinkle it over your food: watercress is tasty (and very healthy) on a salad or quiche. After you cut it off, the plant will continue to grow.
Fancy a beautiful flower? You can plant the dahlia as a tuber in the ground. Not in the cold months, because this bulb flower cannot withstand frost. But! Note: if you put it in a pot now during the cold months, you can split it later! This way you get more plants. Ha. When the plant is about 10 cm high, carefully remove it from the ground and cut the plant into 2 or 3 pieces. Well, they all have roots. Plant them separately again. This way you can cut it all year round. The more flowers you cut, the harder the plant will work to produce even more flowers!
