Tulum Mexico: these are the best places to eat and drink
TulumMexico, you can't not have heard of it. And you can't not want to go there. Although Tulum Mexico is actually not much more than a street with a beach, there are two centers to discover: one a small village and the other a long street full of beach bars - everything you could wish for. And that in the super deluxe variant. Zandvoort can suck it up. In the hip, hippie-like Tulum, everything and everyone has been thought of. At least if tother, food, drinks, yoga, swimming, etc, etc is on the schedule. But especially with 'food and drinks', we are happy to help with that: these are the best places to eat and drink in Tulum.
It was critically acclaimed hartwood in Tulum. Ask anyone in Tulum where to eat and Hartwood is number one. So nicely hyped. After all that cheering, Hartwood's status is almost in doubt, but the hype is certainly justified. So you know. Make a reservation to be sure of a spot.
Or are we going to ARCA? Because after we visited ARCA, we actually couldn't believe that Hartwood could be better. ARCA is just a few steps further from Hartwood and has a slightly more modern look plus damn good food. The sourdough bread, or well, the dough thereof, is thrown into the gigantic oven at the time of ordering and arrives at the table so clinking fresh that you might want to (and can) leave it with the bread for the rest of the evening. But don't do that. Order everything and more. It's wonderful there.
The beautiful outdoor The restaurant is located in the central beach part of the town and you can mainly recognize the restaurant by the beautiful tree in the middle of the 'shop'. The tree is full of lights and other decorations. Flowers on the tables as if they were freshly picked from the field. And sofas full of fluffy cushions with trendy prints. Get a spot near (preferably under) the tree and your evening can't go wrong. Gypsy.
The name says it all, there is Art, it looks Artsy and there is Art for sale. Totally nice. Even more fun: a delicious breakfast (or lunch) is put on the table after which you can no longer say porridge. Choose a spot in the garden or at the bar and enjoy. Plus: there is exactly one room for rent at the Tulum Art Club. At the back of the garden, go up the stairs and you have the place all to yourself. Vintage decor does the trick: very handsome.
Tulum wouldn't be Tulum if the latest hype had not been considered and answered in detail. Tatataa: Raw Love. For everything Raw. Obviously. With the best smoothie bowls. You-know-what, like on the (Insta)pics.
In the center, the village center, a little further than Ki'Bok (can't miss, see below). The Gourmet to find. And at El Gourmet they put a great meal on the table. Especially nice: you sit under a roof of umbrellas. Pleasant.
A small place with tacos from a truck. Some chairs, tables, string of lights and the whole mess around it – done. The seating is comfortable and the tacos are good. Perfect for an evening cheapo maar whatever you do: don't order wine. We repeat: do not order wine.
At Jaguar House you are in the middle of the mature hippie garden (so bring anti-mosquito spray) and the restaurant summarizes exactly why Tulum is so popular: the atmosphere is relaxed, the setting romantic, the authentic Mexican food pure, healthy and delicious and the service is easy to come by, that only makes the evening more enjoyable. Also go wash your hands: they have the nicest tap in the world. A Tulum classic and a must go if you ask us.
The restaurant is slightly futuristic due to the high stone walls and art. Those walls tower above you like palm trees and emit a green light. Crazy. But cool. And a completely different atmosphere than you are used to. Modern. Regardless of the interior and exterior, you go to WILD for an incredibly delicious meal, because of the very good cocktails and there is a small one keynote in the garden of the restaurant. Moreover, parties are held regularly.
Zamas is especially attractive for an endless afternoon of playing games on colored chairs, if you get bored of the white beach. Perhaps not the very best restaurant and not the coolest hotel, but a nice change.
At wall wall shops and a restaurant gather. First of all, that restaurant looks great mighty fine out. Secondly, strong (and tasty) cocktails and thirdly, you also eat well there. If you're not distracted by those shops, that is. The most beautiful hats, dresses and jewelry beckon at you from the shop windows. You may be quickly put off by the prices so you'll want to get back to that cocktail, but otherwise your credit card will have a busy evening.
It is a colorful intention at Mateos. On the right a lady who will lovingly put together an excursion for you, straight ahead a long bar, on the left the table and on your plate the best (greasy) taco in Tulum! Perfect for a hungover lunch. By the way, you can get delicious fresh fruit shakes throughout Tulum, including at Mateos.
No matter how delicious burritos are, a pasta dish from time to time is hard to resist. You get there after a walk through a garden full of an organized hodgepodge of pots, bottles, plants and wooden gazebos (it's impossible not to take photos, believe us). Sleeping at Posada Margherita is also possible: above the restaurant is a very affordable hotel. Also a classic not to be missed.
It's nice to sit on the street side (people watching) or on the beach (nap after dinner). The menu is tapas-style Mexican-Italian. Sounds very complicated, but once there it is very logical.
The busiest coffee shop in the Mexican town of Tulum Ki'Bok, you could say. From the outside you only see a bar, but look further than your nose and you will soon see a small restaurant that belongs to Ki'Bok, plus a courtyard. Between the banana trees and other such plants (which we cannot name), you drink the tastiest coffee and eat a really good breakfast. Extra nice: the coffee costs absolutely nothing. Well, almost nothing. And, as with many Tulum spots, Ki'Bok also has two rooms for rent. A micro hotel as they say.
