The soon to be Ornamental garden, this is how you do it

First of all? Could there still be night frost? Then we wouldn't plant spring flowers. And then all your hard work will be for nothing. Shame! What is possible are the flowers and plants in these photos. The photo with white blossoms: these are currant trees, but used as a shrub. 2 or 3 trees together that you prune back to about 1 meter. Provides a beautiful shrub. Beautiful blossoms in early spring, currants in summer and leaves that change color beautifully in autumn. The purple photo: this is Judaswort. It should be sown in June and will flower the following year in March/April. In autumn the plant turns into silver-gray flat screens that you - pay attention! – can be used very nicely as dried flower.

What also blooms in the spring is the Helleborus, that lovely plant with the delicate leaves in beautiful soft tones. You can now remove any ugly leaves from that plant and – note: throw them on the compost heap. Because yes, if you take up gardening, make your own compost heap (provided you don't live in the city, which is bad for the neighbors). But if you have the space, do it: nothing is better for your flowers and plants and it won't cost you anything. If you have a small garden, consider buying a compost bin. This one for example. You then make your own organic fertilizer. What is allowed in or on top? Get rid of the waste of vegetables, egg shells and coffee grounds, for example.

Spring is also the time to... roses to prune back top about 10 cm above the ground. Then immediately fertilize with (organic) manure. You too butterfly bush Now prune back to slightly above the ground. We will tell you later when to plant these handsome plants. Not now, but pruning is in order.

The yellow flower: these are flower bulbs. These need to be put in the ground in the fall, so save them for later. This is what they look like in March/April. It is best to place them between a bush, because you have to let the foliage die and that does not look nice. Between a bush
it doesn't stand out.

The gray plant is the artichoke. Also beautiful in an exuberant flower garden!
