The Valsana Hotel in Arosa, Switzerland, is a top base for your active holiday.

We’re staying in Switzerland for a little while longer: after all, we love everything related to cheese, chocolate, and white mountain peaks. If you’ve ever been to Arosa, you know that it’s mainly about skiing (winter) and the very best of outdoor activities (summer). It’s certainly nice. A crowd-puller is the Tschuggen Grand Hotel, with its own ski lift and fantastic glass spa. And then there is the Valsana: no longer a newcomer, but owned by the same proprietors (the Tschuggen Collection) and still proof that the Alps can be less stuffy. The Valsana Hotel in Arosa, Switzerland, is a top base for your active holiday.

Here, there are no white tablecloths or rooms where Heidi would feel at home, but forty rooms and nine apartments where antlers have been swapped for designer wallpaper, sheepskins for industrial chairs, and embroidered armchairs on oak parquet floors. The suites and apartments feature a fully equipped kitchen—handy if you are staying for a week. The hotel is situated on the edge of the village, right by the forest, at an altitude of about 1.800 meters. And there is tennis at 1.830 meters, both indoors and outdoors, with private lessons and clinics.

You can dine at restaurant TWIST, where they cook with fresh regional produce and give classics a twist, including fully plant-based, easily digestible “Moving Mountains” menus. And coffee roastery Quintacoira from Chur opened a café on the ground floor of the Valsana, serving specialty coffee all year round. Also fun: winery Smith & Smith has an alpine wineshop there, and there is a terrace with Funky Saturdays in August, together with the Aroser Wandelbar: funky beats, creative drinks, guests, and locals mixed together.

Half board works here as Dine AroundFor CHF 80 per person per day, you eat at TWIST, in the restaurants of the Tschuggen Grand Hotel, or at Bergrestaurant Alpenblick.

Skiing, hiking, and mountain biking are at their best here: the nearest cable car is just a few minutes away, and thanks to the connection to Arosa Lenzerheide, you have access to around 225 km of slopes. In the summer, as a hotel guest, you receive the Arosa Card, which allows you to go up the mountain lifts for free.

Dogs are welcome (there is even a dog menu), and furthermore, the hotel has a ski room, a bicycle workshop with a washing station, e-bike rental, charging stations, and a shuttle to and from the station. We know which hotel will be on repeat for years to come.
