How do you best prepare your skin for the cold autumn after a sunny summer?

Lovely, all that summer sun. Your skin, however, thinks a little differently about it in the autumn. Because how do you help your skin recover without having to deal with dry patches or pimples for weeks before it gets used to the cold? Three tips:

Barts Boekje Wellbeing... Good idea, but what exactly do we mean? After all, Barts Boekje is a travel, hospitality, and lifestyle platform, isn't it? That's absolutely right. And Barts Boekje Wellbeing is indeed about balance. How do we find and maintain a healthy balance amidst the hustle and bustle, especially considering all the trips and outings we undertake (and advocate)? And... if we are asking ourselves this, surely more people are! For that reason, we reached out to POMME aesthetics & longevity, a medical clinic specializing in aesthetic medicine and longevity, founded and run by sisters and physicians Drs. Charlotte and Drs. Catherine van den Berg. After all, aesthetics and health are inextricably linked. Our appearance reflects how we feel, and you can see it immediately in your skin when your body is in balance.

In this series, Charlotte and Catherine answer numerous questions here on Barts Boekje within their own areas of expertise. If you have a question yourself, please email it to info@bartsboek.com.

1. Retinol in your evening routine (are you already using it? Then increase the strength slightly)

The sun takes its toll, and this is often reflected in dull skin with low hydration, pigmentation, redness, and fine lines. Retinol to the rescue. Retinol belongs to the retinoids, a family of substances that are among the best-researched ingredients in Skincare belongs. Retinol stimulates your skin to produce new cells and more collagen faster. This translates into fewer wrinkles and firmer skin, also in the long term. Important: Start low and slowRetinol is powerful stuff: if you start with a variant that is too strong, your skin will quickly become irritated. If you have never applied retinol before, choose a variant for beginners and apply it three times a week at first, with a good moisturizer apply it over that. If that goes well, switch to daily use. Retinol does make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so an SPF should be applied in the morning. Even in autumn: the sun is still there, even if it doesn't feel like it. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, skip retinol for a while. Thank us later.

2. Vitamin C in your morning routine (preferably a concentration of 10 to 15 percent)

Get rid of pigment. The sun activates your pigment cells: they produce extra melanin, which manifests as spots on your face. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that inhibits pigment production, allowing those spots to fade. Apply it every morning and you will see your skin become more even. If you also want to address redness, enlarged pores, and your skin texture, laser or light treatment is the gold standard. Our favorites: BBL (BroadBand Light) and Super MOXI laser treatment. These deliver the most beautiful results.

3. LED mask (red light therapy)

3. LED mask (red light therapy)

In the summer, we schedule all sorts of things. In the autumn, calm returns, and with it, structure. The perfect time to start using your LED mask daily again (tip: CurrentBody or Omnilux). If you use it consistently, you will see your skin texture improve within about eight weeks. Afterwards, apply a hyaluronic acid serum, such as the Hydrating B5 Gel from SkinCeuticals. Good for hydrated skin and a significant boost. glow.
