Lots of color and character

Al Moudira was conceived by Zeina Aboukheir, who fell in love with the history and architecture of the region during a visit to Luxor. Together with Egyptian architect Olivier Sednaoui, she designed a hotel featuring domes, vaulted ceilings, and sheltered courtyards. The interior complements this seamlessly, with antique furniture, hand-painted frescoes, and unique art objects that Zeina collected during her travels through the Middle East. The 54 suites also each have their own distinct character. Some are richly decorated, others somewhat more understated, but the special details and warm colors are present throughout. Surrounding the patios are green gardens with flowers, fruit trees, and fountains. The combination of architecture, art, and lush greenery gives Al Moudira a bit of an 'oasis' feel. We like.

After a morning among the ancient monuments, it is wonderful to return to Al Moudira. Take a dip in the pool, book a massage, or visit the traditional hammam, with its marble details and hand-painted tiles. There is plenty to discover at the dining table as well. The restaurants serve Egyptian specialties and international dishes, ranging from local flavors at Khan Al Moudira to Mediterranean, Asian, and South American influences in the Ottoman Hall. For an outdoor lunch, head to the restaurant by the pool. As tempting as it is to stay at Al Moudira all day, the surroundings are truly worth the effort. And after a day full of temples, tombs, and history, a visit to the hammam upon your return feels especially well-deserved, doesn't it?
